As for a single man having a cat - then I have never ever known even one. Never, and I am 52 years old and I have traveled all over the USA and I have never even heard of a single man owning a pet cat.

A non-single man might have a cat for the kids or for the wife or to chase the mice, but never a single man.

Wnen a single woman gets a cat then that is a sign of dooms day.

Uh..well must be the Texas sun cause I've know several single men that owned cats..one was my room mate and high school friend ...
and there was a Vet Nam vet.. that had two cats..one of his cats was like a dog...he would fetch.. roll over and followed my friend around like a faithful little dog..
hey Pets are pets...my son had a big lizard.. and my daughter two ferets...(hate ferets... they bit.. jump out from under chairs and beds just to scare ya.. not to mention the remotes they chewed up lol) Aint life Grand..
oh yeah I had cats myself.. the one my granny left me.. and several my daughter..one with the ferets.. she had cats too.. I inherited em all pluse three racoons.. that some one abandon.. oh did I forget the crazy parrakee my father-inlaw found in the yard.. one cool mornin... Maria.. she survived for three years.. crazy as all get out... like to bite... tried to kill another bird we bought to keep her company...then the vet told me she was a coo coo bird... but I kept her fed her .. let her bite me.. fly around the house some.. get stuck in the carpet ...then one day she flew into my hands... and just died... poor little maria... Like i said crazy bird.. ooops kinda wondered off the track..

I get this opinion from experience and looking around. And the women talk to each other so a new woman comes around and another woman will whisper to them to go get a cat.

And I do not say owning the cats make the women cold, the cat is just a sign.

An I do admit that surely there might be some single women with a cat and not be rigid, just as surely there are some single men that might have a cat, but my point remains true for the vast majority.

A single woman over 40 and having a pet cat is not going to be open to any romantic relationship, and it is a sign for men to stay away and do not even try.

As to you owning a dog - I do not know if that means anything.

I am one of those PETA type of fanatical vegetarian, so I do not have any pets of any kind.

But surely if I did have a pet and I was looking for a girl friend - then I certainly would NOT have a big dog and would not have an unfriendly dog either.

It seems like a matter of priorities in all these cases.

I am not positive about this, but I am beginning to conclude that all or most of the older women on Plenty of Fish (POF) are secretly cat owners.

Those women just do not tell about their cats on their profiles and that is how it is kept secret.

If we had some way to discover if they had cats or not - then we would be able to tell which ones were true and which ones are not.

I love animals in general, but my lifestyle wouldn't be fair to a less independent creature. However, I don't have a cat in lieu of a man in my life, I have a cat in lieu of a dog in my life.

If a man was in my life, you can bet your whatever that the cat could wait behind a closed door while we enjoyed each other.

Some men own cats, too, most definitely. The hardware department manager of my local Home Depot owns a cat and says he does not trust people who own dogs! Another male friend of mine who owns a cabin and some acreage out in Talkeetna also owns a cat. The difference is, men don't discuss their cats much.....I think society stifles the conversation for them.
