I do know that alot of therapists who treat people such as myself do find it difficult, i have talked to my therapist about this before.
BPD after many years is starting to be recognised more. Becuase of the lack of knowledge and research within the medical field, doctors don't know alot about it. They know that DBT therapy is the way to treat it but that's really about it.
I was dx with BPD when i was 18, i'm now 27 and have just started to get the right help.
He sounds like an ignorant fucking idiot. SI is also something docs don't understand. Because of the wide range of reasons people do it they seems to come to their own conclusions.
Going back to the BPD, SI is one of the diagnostic criteria. Many doctors think we do it for attention cos attention seeking can be part of BPD too. So they see the SI as an attention thing.
Personally i have never ever cut for attention in my life. I have BPD, i struggle with SI. Those doctors don't so when they say things like that, they can fuck off.
A few years ago i was taking something, can't remember what now. I told them i was addicted to it, they told me that it was impossible. I asked her if she had ever taken it and she said no, i said how would you know then. She told me there was research to back it up, i said well they didn't test it on me did they. She couldn't say anything to that.
