Obviously I am here because I want to stop SI. However, when I do get urges and want to give in to them I wish that I wasn't in recovery and I want that coping mechanism back. I am used to having quick relief from things and it is hard not to have that when I feel I need it.
Also, now I am losing touch with a close friend. Although we weren't so close where I told her everything, our relationship was good though sometimes she wasn't very consistent. Cutting is like a friend in a strange way. It could comfort me and be consistent, two things that no person could ever do for me.
Anyone else have the same problem?

i've had the same problem, yes. cutting was always the quickest way to relief & i'm having a hard time finding something that gives me the same feeling. i haven't cut in a little over 2 months. i'm afraid that i'd lose the boyfriend i've had since around that time. That's what's been keeping me from it. I've had some really low days. I had one of my best friends die a couple of weeks ago & it's been hard going since then, but i'm managing. I don't want to cut again, but those urges are terrible sometimes.

Its been a lil less than two months since i have not cut. Its def been a rough journey getting here. Cutting was always thre for me in the past just like a friend would be. but now there is something in side me that keeeps me from putting the blade to my wrist. IDk if it was the death of my fiance and knowing that he did not like when I cut or what it is but i try to hold onto that with my life. I kow the urges can be bad sometimes but try finding something in your life you can absolutly not live without and then when you get the urge to cut think about that thing and hold onto it as hard as yuo can. Its been working for me so maybe ital work for you as well. You can do this just stay strong even on those really tough days!!!

yup......the whole consistent and comfort thing---i totally understand. my boyfriend now, he puts up with the cutting, he doesn't like it, and he tried to get me to stop or distract me if he can when he is around, but when he isn't, i cut. ....but i totally understand....my real motivation for trying to stop is that he said that he couldn't marry me to move forward in our relationship until i stopped...but back to the main point---yes i understand and have the same problem.

I understand those feelings all too well. It kind of gets a hold over you but hun, you can escape the cycle. Cutting has been my friend for a long time. I haven't cut for about 2 months now but I still have days where I feel I 'need' it. I try to think about how I would feel if someone else felt the way I do, what I would tell them. Maybe that will help?
