Self-Injury Support Group
Whether you or someone you know or love struggles with self-injury, this is the community to discuss your experience, find support, meet others going through the same, and get advice on how to stop. Working together, we can help find alternative coping skills to reduce the urge to self-harm.
Therapy takes a while, and it takes a while to go through all the things that cause a person Mental Pain, it's not a quick process. It also relies a lot on you and how honest and open your being with your Therapist.
As for the not cutting. Here is a list of things that you can try the next time you have the urge to cut. For most people the longer you put off the urge to cut and distract yourself, it will go away. So when the urge first starts to hit, find something to distract yourself. And don't just say, I tried nothing works, cutting is a very addictive behavior, it takes hard work to stop it and learn healthy coping skills in its place. You may have to do the same thing 5 times in a row before the urge goes away, but so what, the urge went away....

Write: Journal, diary, poems, a book
Write negative feelings on paper, or a letter to your pain, then rip them up
Yoga: meditation, deep breathing – this might help you relax and control your urges
If you need the feel of the pain of cutting or the sensation of dealing with the pain:
draw or scribble designs on paper using a red pen or paint on white paper — if it helps, make the paint drip
draw cuts on your skin with a red marker
rub/hold an ice cube on your skin instead of cutting it
wear a rubber band around your wrist and snap it against your skin
wrap your hands in ziploc bags, tape them around your wrist then stick your hands in cold ice & water
get a temporary tatoo of the jagged line your pain would look like.
There are many ways to trick/train your brain into thinking your doing what it wants, when in fact you don't have to actually hurt yourself. If you practice these things long enough you can break the cycle of cutting or self-harming.
