Self-Injury Support Group
Whether you or someone you know or love struggles with self-injury, this is the community to discuss your experience, find support, meet others going through the same, and get advice on how to stop. Working together, we can help find alternative coping skills to reduce the urge to self-harm.
I had a one and a half year relationship and i knew i couldn't cut. I was so afraid that he'd leave if i did it. He ended things eventually.
I cut the other day and i hadn't done it for months. Now i have started seeing someone and i'm thinking well i can't do this anymore.
I know it's not really the same as you but i know that the older i get the more frustrated i get at myself for doing it.
I can't honestly say that i'll never do it again. I think that once you self harm once you have the potential to revert back to it when things get too much again.
For me it's like nothing else on earth, sometimes it's the only way to make the pain stop.
I don't know if you've heard of DBT therapy but it's really helpful especially helpful with stopping self harm. You may not need to do all of the modules. But there are parts of it that without a doubt will help you control the urges and manage strong emotions in a more contructive way.
I hope that helps.
Can you think of anything that triggered it?
Did it have the same effect it used to on you?
e.g did it give you that 'release' it used to?
And a lot of people have relapses, think it's pretty unusual if you don't at some point or another.
I'm terrified because the day after I felt better then I have in months and months. I don't know if it was because I had a big blow out with my fiancee and got alot of my chest, or if it's because of the cutting.
I don't want to slip back. I feel weak and pathetic. I have a daughter now and she is going to look up to me. I don't want to be that sort of role model.
