Self-Injury Support Group
Whether you or someone you know or love struggles with self-injury, this is the community to discuss your experience, find support, meet others going through the same, and get advice on how to stop. Working together, we can help find alternative coping skills to reduce the urge to self-harm.
I wish I could help or give you some words of advice other than hang on for the happy moments that should come.
Drinking or taking drugs could land you in jail or, since you are a minor, in a juvenile detention facility... I've worked in one of those and believe me, you don't wanna be there. Worse, you could die. Possibly at this point you may be thinking "that would be a blessing," but that's the depression talking. In short, if you were happy you wouldn't want to die.
I keep going back to this but really, it's the truth... with age comes wisdom and a shift in your perspective on things. I felt the exact same way you're feeling right now when I was your age. "I'm a fk-up, I'm ugly, I'm stupid," etc... I've been there. As you grow older you grow out of that. It's hard to really take control of a lot of things when you're a teenager, I know... livin' under your parents' roof/ rules... but you do have something to look forward to, getting the chance to shape your own destiny. All I can say is, you really haven't even begun living yet. I mean, you're 14? I've been out of high school longer than that. There's a lot of cool people and cool shit in this world that you have yet to experience. In actuality, your brain hasn't even finished developing yet. For real. You may think that it's hopeless, that you're always going to feel this way for the rest of your life, but you won't. Again, you are still verrrrry young. I used to feel that way too, but I'm living proof that you don't have to be miserable for the rest of your life. It's not always going to suck. Part of that involves taking responsibility for your own happiness, too... deciding that you are going to take steps to find happiness. The world doesn't owe you that, and it's not gonna come to you on a silver platter. Everyone has fked up shit goin' on in their life. Surviving means learning how to rise above it. Sorry I'm not trying to sound harsh but that's just how I've learned to look at life. And it's made me a much happier, well-adjusted person.
