When I first started cutting 9 years ago I was doing the dishes after dinner and my sleeves were rolled up and mum saw them and she said whats that on ur arms and I said "Had a run in with a rose bush" coz they looked like those kinda scratches and then when I went to visit dad (mum and dad split up when I was 9) mum grabbed my arms and pulled up my sleeves and said "look what ur daughter does" man I was so embarrassed coz every time I went to see dad he demanded to see my arms to see if I had done any more cuts. Another time was when I was at school, it was a stinking hot day middle of summer and I had to take off my jersey and the school bully saw my arms and started calling me "slasher", it soon caught on and it felt like the whole school was calling me slasher... it was not pleasant! I started cutting for attention but then when I wasnt get the attention I craved it was just for everything else. Don't know if u would call it embarrassing buit it was for me!

When I first started cutting (I cut on my foot) I started wearing socks a lot to cover it up. One night I was helping my mom with dinner and I ran to the dryer to grab a clean pair of socks. The socks I grabbed were still kind of wet but I put them on anyway and then it started to bother me. Without thinking I pulled the socks off in the kitchen and my mom was like "What happened?! Are you cutting yourself?" I pulled the whole cat scratch thing and she believed me. I felt so dumb for having held my cover for so long and for that one little thing to throw it off. I'm soooo careful about covering up now...

Haha I remember one time I ended up bruising on my of my hips really badly, and my Mom caught sight of my left hip one day and was like Oh gosh what happened?! So I told her I ran into a desk (yah right). A couple of days later she saw my right hip and was like Oh what happened?!?! and I was like remember, I ran into the desk? *oh yah, thats right* Not to mention when I've gone in to get stitches. The first time was actually great, the nurses were really cool and actually made me feel better about the whole thing, because i was really nervous about going in in the first place. The second time I went in the nurse freaked! She was like *are you getting help and looked at me like I was crazy! I was more amused than embarrassed, but it kinda stung just the same

When I was having my "bum test" -a colonoscopy. I was in a gown which required my arms to be on display. The doctor could see I was embarassed about my cuts so she covered them up with a tissue! I would have been less embarassed if she had just ignored it.
And once when I was in hospital because I feinted this stupid doctor said "I can tell by your arms (way to go sherlock!!) that your a cutter, for heavens sake never overdose on paracetamol" I was like gee....thanks....jerk.

I have quite a few very embarassing stories about my SI.

i was sitting in the lunchroom at my higschool, with a few people that i don't normally talk to, just chatting and a guy that i had a crush on comes up. He sat next to me and we started talking well i made a joke about someone being "emo" and i did the little "emo hairflip thing" and he laughed and said 'Oh i bet you cut your wrists too' joking around, he grabbed my arm and he put the back of my hand on the lunch table so the underside of my wrist was up, pulled back my sleeve and made motions like he was cutting my wrist--It all happened so fast i didn't realize, one of the other girls at the table realized before anyone else and gasped and the guy looked down and got this really horrified look on his face, covered my arm back up grabbed me and put me on his lap and just held me...
Everyone at the table saw my mutilated arm..
There were no excuses i could have come up with at all, because at the time i was cutting really really bad, every day..
That's only one of my embarassing stories though!

I don't really have that many embarrassing stories... but one time I cut myself so bad, I gave myself such a fright and mum took me to the ER... anyway we got to reception and mum told them "she's cut herself really deep!" Everyone else sitting in the waiting room stared at me like I was some kind of sideshow... and then the receptionist asked me to show her. I was like what? So everyone can see?! They had these like security bars up so I had to show her through them. Everyone else saw, and another receptionist had a good look too. Then they said out loud "you know the police will be here as a precaution..." So yeah, everyone in that waiting room heard... I am so glad I didn't have to wait to get seen to or I would have been too ashamed to sit in that room with those people staring at me like that. I would have run off.

When I was 11 I tried to cut off my head. I was 11 what did i know? I had a paper route. There was a hill and at the bottom was a vacant lot i used to cross every day. There was a single strand of bob wire that i could ride underneath if i ducked down across the far side of the vacant lot. I thought, if i got enuff speed down the hill and stood up that the wire would decapitate me...u know just like slice my head off completely.
I had been suicidal since i was 5 so at 11 its amazing it took me six years before i actually tried. I started out at the top of the hill, pedaled full blast down the hill and across the lot and stood up. The wire caught me across my cheek just under my right eye and i was throw onto my back with a two inch gash on my face.
I lied to cover up what i did, said i didnt know the wire was there. The embarassing thing was, a schoolmates father was taking a video and actually filmed it. I was a laughing stock for months because many of my classmates were shown the video.
