I don't feel safe taking a shower tonight. I cut a lot in the shower and it has been a bad night. I have done a good job of dealing with urges so far, but I'm afraid that as soon as I get in the shower, I will cut anyway. What can I do?

Honestly, if you can't keep yourself safe tonight you need to get rid of all available harm items, you need to call your therapist or p doc's after hours line. If you really can't keep your self safe then please don't hesitate to go in to the psych unit. Merry Christmas

I would take out your razors before you shower. You wouldn't want to cut too deep. I wish you the best and hope your bad feelings pass soon.

wow i could have written that myself...my "ritual" is done when i shower as well..try doing the opposite, take a bath with someone ie boyfriend sitting in the bathroom talking with you as you bathe

I hardly ever shave my legs because a razor is a trigger for me, my mom has hidden her razors where I can't find them and when I actually need to shave which in the winter I don't even bother to do it, I use an battery powered razor because I don't cut with that, but I used to cut in the showers too, can you get rid of the stuff you would cut with so you don't have it with you in the shower. Though if you don't feel safe then don't have a shower, a shower can wait a day.

Thank you for all of your suggestions. I almost cut yesterday, but was able to stop myself. The difficulty is that while in the past I have skipped the shower for a day and taken one the next morning, the urges have not gone away this time and there is only so long you can go without a shower.

I too struggle with getting the urge to cut in the shower because that is where I usually do it. I still keep a shaving razor in the shower, but no fresh unused ones. I have a thing about only using cutting tools that are really clean, so as long as I don't have a fresh pack of them around I'm usually okay.
