Self-Injury Support Group
Whether you or someone you know or love struggles with self-injury, this is the community to discuss your experience, find support, meet others going through the same, and get advice on how to stop. Working together, we can help find alternative coping skills to reduce the urge to self-harm.

In the beginning, it was a cry for help. As time went on, I didn't want anyone to take it away from me, so I quit being open about it.
Don't judge this girl. Just because what she gets from cutting is different than what you get doens't mean that its just as vital to her life as it is to her.
Remember, in the end, the action is the same.
Maybe she *is* doing it for attention. If so, she desperately needs the attention, yes? What makes her need for attention any less important than any of our issues? Or maybe it's a cry for help. A lot of people start cutting just so people will finally see how much they're hurting and understand that need help.
Maybe she's *not* doing it for attention. Maybe she just doesn't care what other people think. I sure as hell hope *I* don't feel like I need to hide my scars forever (should I survive this nightmare). They're part of who I am and what I've gone through. I don't want to live the rest of my life in shame.
The point is - you don't know what's going on with her, so don't judge based on ignorance. You're afraid people are going to do the same to you so why in the world would you do it to her? Other people's reactions, assumptions, etc. aren't her fault - they're the fault of an un-educated and un-caring public.
