I've been set free from that nightmare of cutting for years now. It is not an easy thing to do. I wished I could just snap out of it, but it was a strong hold beyond my control. It helped talking to a therapist to deal with the past issues that were making me want to cut.
Honestly, what helped me out of it all was my faith. I believed that the Lord was my strength and calling out to him was my saving grace. He sustained me when I was at my weakest point. I came to the conclusion that I could not do it myself. So, I invited God into the situation and trusted him to carry me.
But one of my problems was I did not want to stop. So, I prayed, Psalm 51:12 "Restore to me the joy of your salvation and sustain me with a willing spirit." I did not have a willing spirit so I prayed for it.
New coping skills are important! I just want you to know that there is hope. Don't stop trying to change. It will happen!
