Self-Injury Support Group
Whether you or someone you know or love struggles with self-injury, this is the community to discuss your experience, find support, meet others going through the same, and get advice on how to stop. Working together, we can help find alternative coping skills to reduce the urge to self-harm.
Here is what I know... I could not pray to God either, because it was so confusing in my heart and mind from all the abuse and not knowing how to deal with it all on top of that I felt such shame about my behavior. However, God knows what is in our hearts and minds before we even lift a word up to Him in our prayers. When we cannot pray the Holy spirit will pray for us. For a time there all I could bring to God was my groaning of sorrow. God comprehends our groaning and what was coming out of them. For a while all I could say was, "help" and "God forgive me."
The thing that helped me so much was looking at my cutting through the eyes of God. He is not a condemning God. He does not look at us and get angry that we are harming ourselves. He is sad for us. He knows our struggles and how hard it is to be delivered from this habit of coping by hurting ourselves. When we cry He is crying with us.
I began to understand that in order to receive healing from this destructive coping skill I had to really want it, but I did not want to give it up. So, I started praying Psalm 52:12 "Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and sustain me with a willing spirit." I prayed for a willing spirit to change. While working with my therapist (who is a christian) on my past issues and my anger things started to change.
I still have some problems with prayer, but I believe in Psalm 34:18 "The Lord is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
I hope that helps a bit. I will be praying for you!

Cassi
