Scoliosis affects all ages. Unlike the naturally occurring curves in the spine, scoliosis causes the spine to curve abnormally to the left or right.

Hi, I'm 42 years old, and had surgery when I was 18. I had the harrington rods inserted. They did a wonderful job with it. I am now married with 3 girls ages 18, 16, and 12. I do mostly everything. Exercise, clean, swim, etc... Lately I have been hitting the workout with consistency. I have been doing cardio and weights, not too heavy. I have been getting a pinching sensation in my mid back. Not all the time...only when I use my back muscles. I have gotten this pain before, espcially when weather is bad. I am just afraid that I ruined something while exercising....or maybe muscle building in my back is causing this?? Anyone have the same experience? I'm kinda worried, but I want to continue with exercise. Don't want to go to the doctor yet...it's not that bothersome. Just concerned! Thanks

Hi, I'm 17 years old, and I too had scoliosis surgery probably 4 years ago now. I also workout by doing low impact aerobics (cardio) and I also feel that pinching feeling in my back and it almost feels like its the nerves, I ignore it, but I understand with what you are going through. The pinching feeling is very hard to describe but sometimes it can get very irritating. .

Thanks for replying. Just wanted to make sure that someone else has felt this. I have eased up on the workouts this week and I have noticed that I hardly feel it anymore. I swept and mopped my house yesterday and I felt just fine. Maybe I just need to ease up on workouts that focus on my back. Thanks!

HI, i had this rod inserted on my back 21 years ago (1991), i was 16 years old, until last year everything was fine. Had a infection caused by the metal, what wasn't too bad, but had small surgery. Begin of this year, my back was starting to get o lot of pain, stoped working, because my job it's very physical, i do a lot of lifting, wich probably i shouldn't, but that was my choice. Went to see a specialist, and he sugested that the metal was causing all the problems. I had this metal out two weeks ago, i'm up, walking, and less pain than before. I'll start hydrotherapy next week, and i really hoping that this will help me more. So, my opinion is: go and see a specialist! All the best!
