Scoliosis affects all ages. Unlike the naturally occurring curves in the spine, scoliosis causes the spine to curve abnormally to the left or right.

Um, in 2010 I had x-rays done and they found that I had mild scoliosis. A few weeks ago, I went to the doctor (on base) and they took more x-rays. We got a phone call a few days ago from a lieutenant colonel saying that my scoliosis had worsened and that they were setting up an appointment for me to see an orthepedic doctor. I don't know how bad it is, though... My mother said that I may possibly be given a back brace to wear for a while. I am not to thrilled about that... Any tips?

I realize it has been a few months since I was last on this site. I went in for an appointment in April and the degree of the curve of my spine was, I think, either 34 or 35, if I remember correctly. They said I was too old for a brace. Something about my bone growth. We are to reschedule for 6 months after that appointment. Hopefully, the curve hasn't majorly increased by then. I'm in an area that they say can go either way. At this point, who knows.

I wore boston back braces for about 6 years, and ended up having a spinal fusion during my senior year of high school (2009). I'm still thankful I wore the braces. I've learned a lot through this experience and have been able to turn it around and use it for good. If you want, you can check out my blog. I include information about everything from bracing to surgery, specifically to help others and answer the questions I would have really liked to know while I was going through it.

No matter what is in your daughter's future in relation to her scoliosis, it's what you make of it. It can be a problem or a blessing, all depending on how you look at it. I'm so thankful for my scoliosis!

Also, even if surgery is ever required, it's not the end of the world. I'm a senior in college, playing volleyball and practicing my instruments for hours a day, just like normal!

I have been going to the chiropractor for my scoliosis (46deg he tells me); not a significant change in how I feel, but he masssages the area and lowers the table to pull gently down on my spine.
I have a renewed HOPE now though! I listened to the audio book "healing back pain" and bought the book too, by Dr. John Sarno. Look him up on youtube! Especially the interview with Howard Stern, and the story about the Rosie O'Donnell employee. I am now trying his psychological techniques and I feel some improvement in the last two days!! I think I can beat this - I know I can't cure scoliosis, but I can cure the cause of the pain/pressure, by using his techniques! I firmly believe in this. I have ordered 3 more books he has written as well,
