Sciatica Support Group
Sciatica is a term meaning pain that originates from compression of the sciatic nerve, the longest and largest nerve in the body. If the sciatic nerve is pinched or compressed (perhaps by a bulging disc in the low back) a patient may experience leg pain--the classic symptom of sciatica.
Soon I will be having a hip replacement, but I am having problems with sciatica too! My left hip is the bad one and the sciatica is on the same side. My rheumy just told me to take advil for it. Long time ago I had that problem on the same side.....it was real bad!. I went to E.R. and they gave me a shot and the pain was gone before I left the E.R. and never had that ever again until this year. Back then I didnt know that I couldve taken something for it. Scared about going to E.R. It was stated that a person now would be in there longer then they had long time ago. Not trying to sound paranoid, but you just have to be careful about E.R.s nowadays!! Forgot to say I have RA(rheumatoid arthritis) since this summer it has gotten to my feet! I am really catching it

The sciatic nerve goes from the back, into the hip and down the leg -- so it could be irritated because of the hip. I'd ask my doc about it. Plus I know how PAINFUL sciatica is, as I've had it for 25 years -- I have to take Rx medications for it. You might ask your doc about pain meds. I'd think twice before going to the ER -- it seems that everyone who goes is treated like a "drug seeker" -- the ER's don't seem to believe that we're in pain.
