Sciatica Support Group
Sciatica is a term meaning pain that originates from compression of the sciatic nerve, the longest and largest nerve in the body. If the sciatic nerve is pinched or compressed (perhaps by a bulging disc in the low back) a patient may experience leg pain--the classic symptom of sciatica.
My brother came to visit me and he is also on pain management (PM) and we got to talking about why and how they are so strict when it comes to medication-I agree, some who came before us, abused the system and now we are paying the price-under the magnifying glass.
This is what he told me: His doctor, before he even goes into the exam room to see him gets on a website and can tell all RX's (type, dosage, strength and doc who prescibed) that my brother has had filled.
He then knows exactly how many he should have left and when a refill is do and GOD forbid he gets a med from someone else without clearing it with him first. This is grounds for dismissal from a PM's care.
Information is strength. So just thought I would share. I see to many of us getting the boot for stupid things that can be explained if given the chance-but you will not be given the chance...just the boot.

But..my husband, who also has ortho problems, was referred for PM and was booted before he even got started. He forgot to list a med from a doctor he sees for cluster headaches. He recieved a very nasty letter and was told not to come back and not reporting every single medicine could be considered doctor shopping and may be reported to law enforcement! My husband was scared to death. He works for the government and was petrified that the PM clinic would try to come after him and put his job at risk. How sad! He never went back and they left him alone. It's just wrong to penalize people and deny them pain management because of a few who lied or mislead doctors.
I guess my point I agree knowlege is your best alli!
i asked what if something happens after office hours and I was told by one of their nurses that "Chronic Pain is never a emergenecy" Wo does that give you a warm cozy feeling!
Times have changed and if you are not aware of the "RULES" it can put you in a bad place...

I totally disagree with what the nurses told you, nansueflan. They have never looked into the eyes of someone suffering miserably with no relief in sight. I know of two people (both men - one very young and one older). Both were dying of cancer and could not get adequate treatment. They both committed suicide.
So, yes, pain can be life threatening when left untreated. If you are suffering, seek any and all help you can get.
