I have a hubby & 2 teen girls. My house is never clean. Hubby helps but the girls ~~~ Thats a joke. They rarely do anything. I think one of the hardest things for me to do is laundry. Bending over to pick up clothes out of the basket, out of the dryer etc... HURTS!!!

When i am laid up & cant do much of anything its fix your own dinner & the house doesnt get anything done with it.

Laundry, there's another hot spot. We live in an apartment, thankfully ground floor but the laundry is in the basement. No elevator and I cannot carry a basket of laundry down a flight of stairs. I've been after her for a couple of days and she keeps saying she's going to do it but it never gets done....today is the day. If she won't do it I'll lose it! I'm living in my 'comfy' clothes these days and I need laundry done asap. I sure hope this clears up soon but I'm not counting on it.

Hi ~ I'd give her an ultimatum. If she's not paying rent, she can darn well do household chores, especially since you're physically not able to do some things. And one thing I can tell you ~ My neurosurgeon told me I was NEVER to vacuum, as that is the WORST thing a spinal patient can do, along with raking the leaves. So she can darn well do your vacuuming and help with the laundry or else pay rent! There, how's that??? Hugs, Lee

I gotta say that sometimes living alone is better than with being with others. Oh sure, I've had to definitely lower my standards a bit - like not being hard on myself for not doing dishes right after eating dinner or things like that, but overall the stress I would think is lower than sitting there knowing you have someone who 'could' get things done but doesn't. Since your daughter is a 'big girl' now, I wonder if sitting down with a chart of some sort and deciding what chores she will do on each day of the week would be helpful? It could be a little flexible in that if Monday was a vacuuming day and she couldn't get to it, that it's permissible to do it on Tues, but....not all the time or the chart becomes useless, obviously. I'm thinking that by doing a chart, she would also begin to better learn time management, proper household upkeep, etc ..which will certainly help her in the long run. Thinking also that a few more trash cans - like in the living room, a clothes basket, and a container for 'things to go to the kitchen'. You could find nice looking 'receptacles' so that your living room still looks nice, but it's a way to basically organize the messes instead of having junk all over. She would also then be required to take the kitchen stuff to the kitchen before she could head to bed, clothes into the real clothes bins, etc. Just some ideas for ya in hopes of also taking the stress of arguing, begging, demanding, and the helpless feeling you must be experiencing about now. I'm trying to help you get to a good compromise and working situation with her cuz it's better that she's there with you than to have her get mad and leave...or at least I think it is...heehee.
Btw - Although Lee's doc said not to vacuum or rake - I read about making sure to use both hands when vacuuming so to avoid the twisting motions and it really did help. I don't get so sore anymore doing it that way. Now if I could only invent something that works like my foot to scrape along the walls, get into corners and small spaces and places like under the couch or bed edges. I know I can use attachments, but they're such a bother to set up all the time. Maybe someone here has ideas?
