should i be blunt?

first of all ty for those who posted to my last question i appreciate it.
my question now is should i be upfront and talk openly about his schizophrenia. he sees and hears certain people and i know they are very real to him but how do i deal with this. do i ask questions i dont want to piss him off because he has accused me of not believing him then gets angry and says i am against him... this is not the case i just want to understand. if he is doing well on his meds shouldnt he be able to know that what he is seeing are not real but part of his disease? i am not trying to be rude or totally ignorant to anyone here who has this disease i just really want to be informed and know what i should do or how i should handle this with him. he has told me that who he sees and hears are with him all the time now and that his episodes are longer and more frequent. i just tell him he has to keep taking his meds and that sooner or later his drs will find the right one for him. that we need to accept good days as well as bad and we will get through it. even if he needs to be hospitalized for periods of time.
the worst part is he has other health issues and this last year has been extemely ill physically which i think has made him weak mentally as well and that is why things are so bad right now. he is to weak to fight back. to get things under control although now he is trying.
if anyone has any suggestions about how blunt or open i should be without him getting totally angry or losing my trust i would appreciate it. we talk about everything else. this is really new for me.
i love him desperately and want to learn to live with his disease as best we can.

you know, i've read this post a couple of times. I see no one else has responded. I think it is because it is difficult to know what to offer as advice in this situaion. He will certainly have to come to terms with taking meds all his life. That is the way it is for me as well. And sometimes, i just dread getting out the pill box. It makes you feel abnormal in some way. People tell you, well if you had diabetes you'd have to take meds every day. but that really doesn't help.

Could you schedule time with his pyschiatrist to answer some of these questions because he would know best what to have you do to support him but let you have your boundaries.
hope this was somewhat helpful. Everyone has a different personality so this wasn't an easy question to say yes or no to.

about the medication....i have been taking my meds for a while now and they have really helped me a lot. i have my setbacks sometimes when i still see or her things, but my medication has reduced my symptoms a lot. i am on geodon by the way. it took my doctors a while though till they found the right meds for me that work...i was on risperdol which didnt really help and also hallodol which i didnt like cause i made me "slow". about talking about his illness to him: i always liked to take about my schizophrenic experiences since i thought that people would understand me better if i explained and talked about it. my parents were a little shocked, but in the end very helpful, my friends were very accepting and understanding. and i have learned to live with it. i hope he is feeling better soon, and i think mistressG is right, this post is difficult to respond to, thats why you got so little feedback so far. i hope this helps people to comment a little more and i wish you two all the best

I have experience with scizophrenia and can also say that sometimes there are other issues behind the scizhophrenia itself. This is the case with my scizophrenic issues.
If you address him be carefull because some areas are very sensitive.
It's good to get the scizophrenia under control and any other issues that may be making it worse.

Just be understanding. My husband has been such a great help to me this way. He makes me angry when I'm having a relapse and he asks me stuoid questions, like when did you take your medication. Things like that.

be gentle with him and patient and let him explain his experiences as best he can when he can i call it "falusaling" and explain it to those i know will listen i take my meds regularly because i don't want the relapses that come anyway though not as often as they used to i too am on geodon which is the drug of choice for diabetics mcate

His meds are not yet working. I would meet with his dr. All three of you and work this out. He is going to be difficult to handle because he is lost in his own mind. He doesn't know he is sick. He might not even be taking his meds if he doesn't see a need for it. I am very open with my husband about everything I am feeling because I know I am sick. My thinking gets off and I need someone from the outside to tell me what is real. We are blunt and that is why he is the only one I trust.
