Hi, Pardon me but I'm being a bit selfish and "business" like, asking Humunculus where did you self-publish from and how was your experience or any advice you'd offer? I'm going to try for regular publishing of my memoirs as they stand without padding it to a full-sized 300 page book and if that fails then try the self-publishing route if if isn't too expensive....this gives me a lot of relief and I've gotten good feedback on the 100 pages I have now...

Hmm..my co-author handled much of the business...but from what I know she used Lulu.com
She purchased the copyright, and the ISBN (so we own the book and can sell it on any marketplace)
I think there's also a conversion fee or at least a lot of work to convert the book to html ...but that's if you want an e-book. Our novel is available in Kindle as well so...that's a thought!
Depending on the marketplace you're selling from you get different royalties. Some places give you a dollar per book, some give you several...depends!

I saw an advertisement on this site for self-publishing and filled out the form and got an email and a phone call from their representative....I don't know much about self publishing and this was a long phone conversation and he is offering me a package at about $1,500 for what sounds like very impressive services and I have the month to consider the offer. At first I picked a less expensive service and he offered to upgrade to a better service for the same price if I paid (by credit card) the first of three installment by the end of this month....Trafford publishing is the name of the company, based in Canada and owned by Penguin, a well known British publishers...have a lot to think about and he sent me a list of books they've published but what do I know???? impressions anyone? I am pretty broke, like I will have only $8,000 to supplement my Social Security etc. over the next ten years...yikes!

I Googled the company and found reviews and they suck...Lulu, thought, which Humunculus used, has good reviews and services. Time to do other things, I think...thanks for "listening"
