Schizophrenia Support Group
Schizophrenia is a psychiatric diagnosis that describes a mental disorder characterized by impairments in the perception of reality and by significant social dysfunction. Untreated schizophrenia is typically characterized by demonstrating disorganized thinking and experiencing delusions or auditory hallucinations.
I was diagnosed with Schizoaffective Disorder in 2019 after previous diagnosis Major Depression with Psychotic Features for which I was on meds for over 10 years. The last psychiatrist said the new one was because though my depression was better controlled, I was still having hallucinations, delusional thoughts and occasionally loss of touch with reality, which did not improve. At first I wouldn't believe him, but he asked me to try a new antipsychotic in addition to my current depression medication to see if the symptoms would decrease. I agreed, and over a period of about 4-6 weeks, the symptoms reduced significantly. I was not only less depressed, the psychosis didn't go totally away, but I was no longer feeling out of control as before. My form is Schizoaffective Disorder Depressive Type, which is more accurate. I would like to hear from anyone else who has this type, how you were diagnosed, accepted it, and the successes, and challenges of it in your life. Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you!!!

I have Schizoaffective Disorder but for me the nature of condition is that meds haven’t really worked and so with the help of therapy twice a week I’ve got to kind of just live with it.
There are a few of us here on DS and I’ve found that the more active forum is Bipolar where we can get support too.
