Schizophrenia is a psychiatric diagnosis that describes a mental disorder characterized by impairments in the perception of reality and by significant social dysfunction. Untreated schizophrenia is typically characterized by demonstrating disorganized thinking and experiencing delusions or auditory hallucinations.
This senseless act of horrific violence against all those beautiful children, already marked with vast potential and promise at Sandy Hook Elementary has really rocked my world by the overwhelming sadness I feel for the victims, families and nation as a whole. Is nothing sacred anymore?
This open wound can only be healed with greater mental health awareness, education, treatment, medication and resources to those who need it most. Call it the 12-12-12 ACT of Congress! This is a wake up call equivalent to 911 in our overall health care system people! We have some MAJOR CRACKS to fix.
And the true reality is, only 1% of the population or 1 out of 100 people suffer from Schizophrenia or a subtype. Also a given is that 1% of the population is inherently violent, malicious and lacks a moral compass to guide them by in a normal society. Those are long odds, but trying to focus on the 1%-10% of say a group of 100 schizophrenics or bipolar individuals who clearly fit one of a series of profiles would be a good start

One thing I am really tired is of every incident being blamed on a schizophrenic.
we will see much come in the way of groups put out awareness campaigns ... and we wont let it get swept under the rug...
the young man who did this had the cards stacked against him...most adults just want the problem to go away ...like his mother wanting to lock him up...sad very sad... everyone was a victim here.... everyone...
