Hi, I'm trying to get my brother to join here mainly to be able to socialize with others but he is a little reluctant to join as he also is dyslexic so would find typing difficult
He has had schizophrenia abt 25+ yrs and feels very alone and isolated... He is tormented daily with voices and finds doing most things very hard and some, impossible.
I love him to bits, and want badly to help him have a better quality of life, but as understanding of his illness as I am, I obviously don't know what it's like to live with it day in day out.
I was just wondering if there were any people here who are in the same boat and would like to chat (albeit maybe slowly and having to decipher spelling mistakes!)

I think, speaking of everyone here in the sz forum, that we would be able to adapt to his dyslexia. Everyone here is pretty warm and caring. Your brother will get support here, guaranteed. Have him make an account and just try to post so he can see how things work around here. He is more than welcome. :)

One of my best friends has dyslexia and I have no problem figuring out what he is typing. I think it is amazing.

I would love to message him or you and help you. I think you are a wonderful and caring sibling! Support and kindness are two of the most crucial things needed in having this illness. We would welcome him with open arms! Although you can't push him too hard to join if he is not ready but maybe have him read our comments and he will.

Can't tempt him to join .... So am leaving it for now, I worry that he's too set in his ways to change anything now.
His voices - even the nasty, lowlife depraved ones that he gets mental abuse from almost constantly, all seem part of (what he himself says) is part of a different world than I live in
So sad

Well maybe he can use this website through you. He could tell you what he wants to say and you can type it in for him?? It might make your life a little more hectic...but what are sisters for?? Just keep telling him how this website will help him not feel so isolated and alone.

I would Bayrabbit, I've always been here for him, and always will be...it's just that he seems to be in a particularly bad way at the moment ( constantly talking/arguing with the voices) very stressed out, but saying he's fine. And refuses to admit that he has an illness/disease and that what is happening is just groups/gangs of nasty people who don't want him to be happy and take everything from him- mentally phisicly emotionally etc- he can't do anything, I think I need help to help him- I don't know what to do- he says he's fine, but he seems to be suffering and lives a very lonely life- I hate it for him, but whenever we see each other now we end up arguing about everything

Hi. I had a hard time for a long time connecting with people with SZ. I know we can go through a lot staying connected to people. Up, downs, but my philosophy is to stay connected to people no matter what. That's all i think matters. My mom is a big arguer, she loves to argue. She's always on my back about stuff, but even in that I find strength just knowing im connected to her, my brother, a few other people. I could just say I dont want to deal with this bs anymore , and just cut em off, but i think the definition of love is to stay connected. It's supposed to be a good part of life, it's just a mix of pro's, and cons. Good luck and tell your brother i said Hi. Josh
