My son is doing better. They had to up his Risperdal and they gave him Prozac for the anxiety. The only problem no is the prozac makes him sleepy all the time. He just started on it so I hope it just a matter of adjusting to it. Seems we have a bit more in common. Both my brothers are Autistic. One can speak and the other has the mentality of a 2 year old. Never learning how to speak. So I have had some experience with some form of problems with the mind in my family all my life. They say that schizophrenia is hereditary which got me to thinking if in some way down the gene pool my son was struck. I dont know but it does make one wonder. In any case, if you would like to send me a message to talk I am always around...Hugssss
Well he stopped taking the Risperdal. He wasn't feeling any results from it and it left him dopey during the day. Seems he got alot of the side effects mentioned by folks. We have an appt with the Dr tomorrow. And I got alot to say. This will be the first time I am going with him. I am going to give my observations on this drug. And they ain't good. Will post tomorrow evening with the outcome......Thank you for asking about him. i appreciate it....
I took seroquel for a while and it helped me to sleep. When I am rested, I can cope with the voices. I hear them, but they don't upset as much. Insomnia made me much worse.
I also found that massaging my head, my shoulders and upper arms helped me, too. It took away some of the stiffness I often feel.
This may sound weird, but walking at the track in a counter clockwise direction helps me,too. Clockwise isn't as effective for some reason. I had to FORCE myself to walk everyday, but it HELPED.
The worst part of this illness is my family's lack of support. So if you love your son, please show it! Talk to him about his illness and listen to him. You don't have to understand everything, but listening will help him. NOBODY in my family would listen to me. They just got angry and told me to stop it. And they were afraid of me. That hurts the most.
What gives me the most control and comfort is praying. When I focus on talking to God, the voices aren't as bad. I also discovered the Christian Bible. I really feel Jesus's message "Fear not!" changed my life.
I used to cower in my bed, totally consumed by the voices. I was so SICK I can't even discribe the agony. Closest thing is "cancer of the mind." I thought often of hurting myself to escape that hell. Now, when the voices are saying mean things it doesn't scare me. I say, "Well, I can't get rid of you but I know God is real, He loves me and I"M NOT AFRAID!!! So instead of stinging scorpions in my brain, I have little gnats..........annoying, but not harmful.
I will keep your son and everyone else here in my prayers. Love and support is what makes us and I guess everybody, feel better.
Thank you for the advice. Slowl he is learning how to deal. But he does have his good and bad days. YOu are all my prayers as well....
