I've just been switched to a new doctor - he thinks based on my histpory that i might be schizoaffective instead of schizophrenic, which has always been my pesoinal view but i trust thew doctors on these matters but now that one agrees with im a bit worried cause i think i may be about to be entering a manic episode, does anyone have any experience with these?? Early warning signs etc.?? asking hewre cause i know a few people here are schizoaffective rather than schizophrenic, id there a support group for schizoaffectives i couldnt find one :S

I agree, there needs to be a support group for more of the schizophreniform disorders. I suffer from schizoaffective disorder, bipolar type. I only experience hypomania, but my warning signs are high irritabilty and energy levels, need less sleep, more prone to drink alcohol and wreckless shopping/spending. Those are just a few. It has been my experience with psychotic and mood disorders that each person has different symptoms in different orders and it is not accurate to make too many generalizations. And also remember that you might have the flip side of the mania, which is the depression, which can be crippling.

Also, agree it would be helpful to have a schizoaffective support group or at least just joining up all support groups to a general mental illness group. As most of us tend to be diagnosed several times through the system.

However I also have the schizoaffective label but more depressive side of it then the mania as one of my labels so tend switch between here and the BP (Bipolar) site. From what I have learned from the BP mania there tends to be a broken sleep before the mania hits (tossing and turning that sort of thing) for a few days (Although some BeePers tend to live on very little sleep as it is 4-5 hours tops). After that, they can get no sleep for 24hrs, which seems to be the start of the onset of it. Really if you are heading into a manic state, you might be better posting on the BP site. Nevertheless, hoped I have helped.

i have this illness to and the meds help but it a combination of but i think that changing into a stessful situation cause manic for me if i do to much i get manic i think there just not enough people with this illness to have it own chat space but i go back and forout between bp and schiz
