I was wondering if anyone has had success with any other kind of drugs that are not intended for pychiatric conditions? For a long time i thought all drugs that were narcotics were bad, but i have been through enough hell now to have an open mind and use what seems to work. I get pain pills form my injured leg, and i think they effect the central nervous system in a way that takes stress off. My doctor wants me to keep trying new antiphycotics, but every time i try a new one it is like going through an acid trip and trying to come out the other end with a reconstructed personality. I think librium might help since it is a mild analgesic, but he is completely against benzos. I can either accept my life is going to be lived in some black pit for the rest of my life with pych pain, or i can use other means and feel decent. I was wondering what anybodys opinion on this matter is about using drugs to cope.

Ever since I stopped doing therapy because of insurance, I've been feeling that old tense and irritable sense of anxiety and stress. I hate that. I was making so many strides and changes during therapy, my therapist would acknowledge all of my progress and accomplishments, and I miss that reassurance. Today I thought about it, and I made those changes! She would always tell me that I chose to...

neuroleptics on hand if they are needed. My new anti-depressant has done wonders for me. Meds are worth a go--if you have a top-notch pdoc.
i only smoke once or twice a month, when things are too heavy to cope, but i'm glad i have that option.
i'm schizoaffective, w/ `combat' type PTSD
i have to be extremely careful with it, and i won't smoke it (too intense)
i find eating it or using my vaporizer to steam it produces a much different high, and works more on the body than the mind. i have chronic pain issues, so my only other option is narcotics like codeine, which i find far more damaging.
Aiyeeeeeeeeee ... it is the best!!!
I have PTSD too ... the ganja really helps with free floating anxiety and panic attacks.

I know that I am food sensitive. What I eat and drink I have a definite reaction too.
For a while I tried to self medicate with natural products. Fish oil really lifted my mood. It also seemed to have a stabilizing effect.
I had to take it for like a month and a half before the positive effects kicked in. It also helped with cholesterol levels. Maybe talk to your doc about that?
Right now, I am on olanzapine and trazedone and that seems to work pretty well.
Occasionally I will have a drink (alcohol) - and that seems to help me untwist my head when I get to worked up about things. For me a small drink is like a healthy reset button. Not too much though as that can have a bad effect.

So, I try and be aware of what I eat and drink and 'take - in' all in moderation. I know this sounds boring - but it is. I hope this helps some. It helps me to manage some of it all and it's become a habit/part of my routine.
