Went to the rheumy today because I scheduled an appointment due to weekly flares even though I've been on Enbrel for 3 months. I told her that Enbrel worked fine when I was on medical leave or vacation but that with the stresses of teaching, my hour ride, the ridiculous time I wake up, etc..... that I was still having flare ups. I expected her to maybe add something to the mix but her response was that the Enbrel is not working at that regardless of my hard job, my stress, or my long commute that Enbrel would eliminate all my flares 100%. That's news to me! Even the registered nurses at Enbrel don't give their medication that much credit. I guess anyone who is on a biologic and not 100% better should be switching their medications because according to my doctor you should be 100% better. When I questioned her she stated that maybe my flare ups come because I anticipate them. I don't anticipate anything in fact when I feel better I delude myself into thinking that "I'm cured". Finally, I complained about my fatigue and she said I should be seeing a psychiatrist for fatigue issues. It's like she doesn't even acknowledge that fatigue is a symptom of RA. I got a similar response the last time I mentioned fatigue. It was an awful visit, accomplished nothing and just made me question whether of not I should ever go see this doctor again. Next month she said she will try me on Humira. If that is unsuccessful she'll try something else. She gives no credence to the possibility that my long hours, hard day at work, or long commute has anything to do with my flare ups even though when I've been off from work I was 99% better. So should I be allowing her to keep trying different medications on me or get a second opinion? Oh, and because I questioned her I felt I should apologize. Her response was that she is stressed also, has a lot of patients and a lot on her plate. Correct me if I'm wrong but is her overload of patients or the stress she is under supposed to be my concern? I'm paying good money for her to consider my stress as a factor of the status of my disease yet she wants no part of that. When she said she was stressed I should have told her to tell her problems to a psychiatrist instead of me! Now this doctor has increased my stress ten times with her attitude today!
