I have just started Humira about 10 days ago. I personally did not have any side effects from it. But everybody is different. Maybe others on here can give you more insight. I hope it works well for you!!

Do you have pain meds that you could take during your work trip? Everybody is different, so I hesitate to tell you my experience. I tend to be the one that gets the side effects. i know others that Humira has been a life saver. Besides, I was told it takes awhile for Humira to start working, so I'm not sure you would get the benefit of pain relief. For me, I just always wait to take a new med when I know I can be home around people that I know.

I had no side effects from Humira. I did have some relief( swelling in pads of my feet) writhing a couple of days.

Would your doctor give you a small dose of prednisone to take daily to alleviate most of the pain? That might be easier than waiting on side effects. Chances are it'd be fine but there is always the slimmest of chance that you could react.

I was on Humira for a couple of years. It takes a few months to kick in, so you may need something else if you need more immediate relief for your trip. You made a bit of a "Freudian slip" in your post. You wrote "would it be a good idea to 'trip' the Humira..." I think you were trying to tell yourself something (like go on your trip!). Have fun in Vegas and start the Humira when you get back if your doc says it's OK

By the way, most people on Humira just get the injection site reaction (swollen, red and very itchy). If you take a couple of Benadryl about 30 minutes before your injection (again, make sure that is OK with your doc), that will pretty much eliminate the reaction. It did for me, anyway. It's best to do all that just before bed because the Benadryl will make you sleepy and the Humira will make you tired that first day anyway.

I had been on Humera. It didn't give as much improvement as my Rhuem wanted to see. However, I had no negative side effects, and within 2-3 days there were tremendous improvements on my feet. It was fantastic. But, my hands still need more help.

If you're only gone for a few days, it may be wise to wait until you get home. Chances are you'll be fine, but just in case, I would want to be home.

Had no side effects from Humira and have been taking it for the last year along with mtx.
I did feel a bit better after the first shot and much more better after the 2nd shot.
But I do agree with the others that said, wait til you get home... better safe then sorry I would want to be near my doc if something was to happen

I'm aslo waiting on insurance approval for Humira. Just came off Enbrel...did nothing for me after 9 shots. I was in the same position as you last year. I was getting ready to start a new med and going on vacation. I waited until I got back to start it. I think if I were you, that's what I would do now. Enjoy your trip to Vegas!!

Thanks for the replies. I am still waiting for my doctors office to just submit the request to my insurance so it looks like I won't have it until I come back.
My insurance provided me with a case manager who recommended waiting to have a Humira nurse come over and help me with my first injection. So if it comes through this week I will schedule something when I am back in town next week.

I used Humira for about 6 months. I did not have any side effects but it didn't help much either. I wouldn't think traveling would be a problem.
