Thank God for MTX!

Hi Everyone! Most of you know I had been having a horrible time for the last 6 months, maybe even longer. My doc put me in MTX injections a few weeks ago and man I feel like a new woman! I havn't had any side effects at all, except feel bad for a few hours after the shot. I was on MTX tablets when I was first diagnosed 2 years ago and my hair started coming out pretty bad so they took me off of it. I'm hoping that with the injections that won't happen, and even if it does I don't care cause I'll just get a wig. I have not felt this good since I can remember. I'm also still using Simponi too. I'm hoping that this will last! Just wanted everyone to be encouraged to keep trying different meds. I was on so many and it seemed nothing would work for me. I was very discouraged but have a new hope...have hope!!

I am really glad for you! It sometimes takes forever, but when you find that right mix, it's like a bright light!

nc..thank you! Janebee..Oh my gosh that must have been terrifying! Have you been able to get on some medication to help you? I didn't even know that MTX had that side effect!! It is a gamble..yes..I had many side effects from lots of other medications too but nothing that severe! Sorry that happened to you! Dreamchaser..thanks..I hope so too! Every day is a new day and I can't take it for granted that's for sure!

MTX with Enbrel is working pretty well for me, too. I'm so glad you found something that is giving you some relief! We all need to keep up with our regular check ups, as (I believe) heart attacks may be the number one killer of people with RA.

Congratulations!!! I know you have had a rough time finding the right meds, so it's great that you feel better.
That's what I thought about it when my hair started getting thin-I'd just get a wig. But as we were able to drop the dose, it stopped falling out, and now is actually starting to come back!

Just had to pop in to say I'm jealous. I absolutely loved Methotrexate. I felt like I had my life back; it was an amazing turn around for me with absolutely no side effects that I could feel (no tiredness, sickness, etc.). I loved it. Alas, my liver did not and I had to get off of it. So I am happy it works for you because I know what a difference it can make. I remember when I started on it I was terrified because it seemed like such a scary drug, but it was wonderful.

MTX has been a godsend for me.

About three weeks ago, I got a respiratory infection and had to get off the pills until I got over it. A few days after that, I stepped on a mesquite thorn (went through both the boot and the arch of my foot!) and had to get on another antibiotic.

Went three weeks off the MTX, and I'm glad I have it back!

Life, I'm so pleased that you have found that MTX and Simponi are working for you. May that "combo" keep working for you for a very long time.

Hmmm, I couldn't tolerate the MTX pills - my body completely rejected it - I had a fever for about 2 weeks straight. I've heard a bunch of people say that the injections are completely different. Maybe I should ask my doctor about them.

Just curious, what's the "normal" injection dose of MTX?

It's an easy conversion: each 2.5 mg pill is equal to .1 ml of the injectable. If you are taking 4 pills (10 mg totla) you would inject .4 ml.

I was happily on MTX and Humira when I was diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy. The Neurologist said that it was the toxicity of the MTX that caused it.

My "electrical" places in my feet, the feeling like I was walking on glass, and the sensations of being stung or bitten, along with the restless leg syndrome sensations were my symptoms.

He put me on neurontin, which was a nightmare! Still kind of in a place of limbo on fixing it all.

Hope you do well with it.

Thanks again for all of your awesome replies! I'm really loving feeling back to myself. I did notice that my shot on Saturday evening made me feel pretty bad on Sudnay...kind of like I was achy and just tired but by Monday I was fine. No other side effects thank God!
