I do not have that side effect - It would be best if you call your doctor and discuss it with him/her.

I'm sensitive to medication and my doctor always seems so annoyed when I have any problems with his treatments. I wanted to see if it was something common before I bothered him with it.

I know finding a good rheumatologist is hard(my brother has battled lupus for27 years and I have been battling RA the better part of thelast year, but and Dr. that is unwilling to give you the time of day when you are concerned with a possible side effect then you should look around. Having said that and med that causes breathing issues deserves a second look from your doctor.

PS I take mtx and had side effects in the beginning like nausea that I do not have now.

My doctor took a chest xray before I started mtx b/c it can cause lung issues. I would call your doctor before taking another dose.

My drug fact sheet lists lung damage under less common side effects. It includes cough, shortness of breath and/or fever.

Hopefully it's nothing but you should call your doctor to be sure.

Sounds like this warrants a call to the doctor whether he likes it or not. So sorry you do not have one that is supportive- that's important. Please try and get on a waiting list elsewhere.

I had asthma before I got RA, and both mthx and now Sulfasalazine have helped it tremendously. That being said, my theory is that auto-immune diseases are related, and often lung issues are caused by allergic reactions. You might be having a minor allergic reaction to mthx. Often, if you continue to be exposed to an allergen, it will worsen, and if it is affecting your lungs, it could be extremely serious. If you feel very tight, I would go to ER and get looked at immediately. You can die from asthma, esp. large airway. Definitely get medical help!

I've never had that side effect, but if I did I would be calling my dr. ASAP. Take care.

I am on my 4th RA doc. It's hard to change, but worth it when you find one that works well with you. I have my doc's email address. If I have questions in between visits, I email him. He always answers within a few days.

Lung issues are a big deal on MTX. I had a problem with pneumonia a couple of years ago and now I have to go every year to a pulmonary doc to be checked. If your doc doesn't like it--oh, well. Find another doc, but to me, we are all ultimately responsible for our own issues. I research everything. I know my "Big Picture" better than any one.
