I have had steroid injection in my left shoulder. I was told it would take a day or two to work. It did not help any other area, only the area where it was given.

The result, for me, lasted months. Hopefully, you will have the same result.

I have had steroid injections in all sorts of places. The key one is my right elbow. The shots there settle the joint down and it stays that way for a long time -- usually until I do something that aggravates it. Injections in my toes didn't last very long. They were a God send for my ankles and helped for several months.

Just to give you the other side of the story, I've never had more than maybe 6 weeks of mild benefit, then the problem comes back worse than before. Between that and the mind-bending flares a few hours after the injection, not going down that road again.

injections? worth a try until you have your OWN baseline. once you have that you'll have probably a good idea of whether or not for you this is a tool in your fighting chest or makes you worse.or is in the land of not worth it. my anesthesiologist who does these, now, in pain mangement, has his own standard of care at this facility and they will not do more than 6 injections in a 12 month period, including the few shallow ones my rheumatologist does and copies him on, so i keep a shooting record of my body as they do also. i would like to re-do my knees.

i hope they work for you of course :). - but you can clearly see like oral steroids we run the whole gamut on here

knees - great as in a good long while
neck - useless
wrists - lasted about 2 weeks
hips - one side better than the other lasted about 6 weeks
low back - coming attractions

Well, the system wide benefits are fading 6 days on. Woke with the thumb and foot hurting again. I suppose the 10 day quote on bloodstream system wide help is pretty accurate. The one my rheumy did into the left shoulder helped, oh I don't know, maybe up to 3 months???
So I think it will help this shoulder at least a couple months, and the last into the left shoulder didn't cause a flare. In fact, since hitting the meds hard last yr, I haven't had a flare since January... well not a flare like I was having when I was first diagnosed. Now my flares are more mild and I don't really call them flares because they aren't near what they were.
Side note, the rheumy shot was a shot she kept in the cabinet. She sprayed numbing spray, and gave it. I was good to go and left fine.
This shot was given by pain management. He pulled out an ultrasound machine to look at the joint. He hand mixed the steroid with the lidocaine. He didn't numb it, injected it, told me to wait 10 minutes before leaving. I got a light head rush, was good to go. The next day I had sweats and felt shakey and was going a mile a minute.

So I suppose his was elephant sized and her shot normal or something? The steroids he gave at pain mgt gave was so freaking strong compared to her.
