I am new to this disease and the fact that I start meds on Wed...well it is all starting to sink in I guess. I am just venting here so bare with me.
Part of me thinks why take the med? I mean so far my symptoms have been minor. I don't have the "flares" that so many of you talk about and keep thinking I would be fine without it. Yes I have joint pain but most of the time it is minor. I have fatigue but am functioning. Based on test results I am at beginning stages.
I'm scared of what the meds will do to me. Also bummed I can't drink anymore. My rheumatoid asked if I could go without drinking and yes I can but I don't want to! I enjoy winding down with a beer in the evenings. I'm depressed and on the verge of tears all the time. This is taking over my life and changing it...and I don't like it! I know I should be thankful that this disease is not debilitating me at this point but I'm just angry now. Angry and scared about what the future holds for me. I've been fairly positive until now but it is hitting me hard.
I'm just asking for words of encouragement for all that have gone through this I guess and venting.
Starting with 10 mg week of MTX. Any advice on what to expect?

My first dose went well, much better than I expected. I drank lots of water that day and the next. I started my dosing Friday evening because I didn't know how I would react and I didn't want to be sick on a day that I work and knowing that I would have the weekend to recover.
I try not to worry too much about what the future will hold in store for me. I try my best to focus on today, but like you I struggle sometimes too. We need to keep an open mind about treatment and realize that there are lots of drugs out there that are doctors can chhoose from and something is bound to help us.
Its okay to vent and normal to feel afraid at times, it just means you are human. You are in good company here and we will all get through this together. Go team RA!
All the meds scared me, could not manage the MTX although I've heard such good things about it. So wish I could.
The thing with RA is it can be so unpredictable & change quickly in some cases. I would not want it to get out of control as then its a battle seeking that relief. So IMO best to treat it off the get go.
I've never been a big drinker but I sure get where your coming from.
Had my evenings I'd wrap up mom duty, meaning kids safely tucked in bed & have that drink.
So much to learn about RA. Choosing a group like this is very wise.
