I started Enbrel (auto-injectors) in mid-April and have found it relatively easy to inject myself (even though I hated the thought beforehand.). My Rheumy suggested the front of the thigh, changing legs each week, as the easiest injection site.
Allow the Enbrel to warm up before you use it - 15 to 20 minutes out of the fridge. Wipe the injection site with a sterile wipe and have a bandaid ready in case you get a spot of blood.
I'll admit it hurts but for only 10 seconds max. (Similar to when the dentist first puts a needle into your gum.)
Hope this helps you. After two and a half years on the meds rollercoaster, the combination of MTX and Enbrel seems to be working well.

I agree that it's really not hard to inject yourself. I used to use Enbrel, but turned out to be mildly allergic. Especially since you're not going to see your doctor for a while, I would ask him what signs you should look for that mean you should call him or another doctor that mean something's wrong. When I had an allergic reaction, I just had swelling and discoloration in my leg that I assumed was normal because the drug info said that could happen, but apparently it was bigger swelling than it should have been and I should have called my doctor immediately and stopped the medication. So I'd get that information - what specific signs mean you should call and what shouldn't you worry about.

Thanks for the advice. The nurse gave me a list of symptoms that are normal and those that I should contact a Dr. about.

The injection went fine - rather simple and I had no redness. Now if only the insurance part was as simple!
