Anyone have helpful info on scooters I believe I may have to try to get one I don't kno if insurance usually covers any of the cost or if you need a script for one also wonder if anyone has an idea of the best set up like the use of one that you dismantle every time and keep in your car vrs. One on a ramp on back of car. We live in a fairly wet state I assume the ramp would be best so that I can use it when I'm alone but how do you keep them dry? Just wonder what y'all can tell me as I get into this new path kills the pride!!
A couple of years ago one major manufacturer was investigated for fraud( insurance) so they have really tightened things up.
My mom who is completely dependent on her mobility chair( nerve damage in her legs from a back surgery) even had more hoops to jump through to get a new one after they determined her old one was beyond repair.
The mobility chairs run into the thousands of dollars and the car adapters are also quite expensive. If you get a chair that 'breaks' down so you can put in the trunk( my mom's first chair) some of the pieces were still quite heavy and awkward. We ended up just using a transport chair ( lightweight wheelchair) for my mom for quick trips as it was much easier, but would take the mobility chair for extended outings.
You can get scooters much cheaper .
You need to talk to your DR to see if they feel you meet the criteria for a chair . They will usually help with the paperwork for insurance if they determine you do.
You can also rent scooters from mobility stores so you can see what you like and how they function for you( we always rented for my mom when she would visit). This way you can decide if it is worth the cost to you if you do not meet the criteria that the insurance companies set.

I believe it is the scooterstore which says if your insurance doesn't cover the price they give you one-but I hear that process can take months.
