I have just been diagnosed with RA in early January, after experiencing pain and swelling while on an overseas trip, for 7 weeks in late 2009.I am very lucky to have been referred to a Rheumotologist who is very caring and very thorough.
However, to omplicate things further, a CT scan picked up a tumour on my right kidney, which was thought to be cancerous. Now after more CT scans and an MRI I will find out this week if it is malignant or not. the Rheumotologist is waiting until this is sorted before he will begin treatment other than a small dose of Prednisone at present
It has been rather an eventful start to 2010. I am so pleased to have found Daily Strength. I have learnt so much from reading your posts and know I can come here for support and information.

Sorry you are going through all of this. Sounds like you have good docs helping you figure it out. Hope the tumor is benign!! How crazy to have this all at once...

I too am brand new with my diagnosis of RA. So sorry to hear about the tumor.....here are lots of happy thoughts that it is benign! This is such a wonderful place to get information and support, I am happy you found it too.

So sorry you got hit with a double whammy. How frustrating to be overseas and having a medical dilemma. I'm glad you've found some great doctors. Sending benign vibes your way. Please keep us posted.

Sorry about your woes. I hope you find that the tumor is benign. Did your doctor order the CT scan for RA, or did he suspect something from other tests? In any case, you're fortunate to have discovered the tumor so that you can deal with it. I had a similar situation, when I was hospitalized due to lung complications from medications (or RA), and a tumor on my pancreas was serrendipitously discovered by CT scan. I was fortunate it that it ultimately proved to be non-cancerous. I eventually did have surgery to remove it, and had to wait for a while before I could have another RA drug treatment.

I wish you well, hope that the tumor is resolved quickly and you can get on with treatments to deal with RA.

Thanks, everyone, for your warm welcome and positive thoughts. I'll find out about the tumour on Thursday, I hope.
Doug, the CT scan was to do with RA and the tumour was picked up incidentally. Either way, it's reasonably small so I feel pretty lucky.
Kelly, I do have a really good and caring network of doctors, as well as great support from family and friends.

Sorry your going through this. Here you have a great support system. If you have any questions we're all here to help.

I'm sorta a newbie again here. One piece of advice if I have any would be to take control and educate yourself of your health. If you need any info the arthritis foundation has a wealth of info available to you.
