RA on A&E

The repeat of the girl with RA is on intervention tonight. Was curious if they had an update on her. Her family really p***ed me off. They didn't understand the disease at all and really treated her awful.

If you go to the A & E website, you may be able to watch it (or a clip of it). They also have some information on their message boards. A lot of people were ticked off at her family, and some of her family members responded on the board. I watched it for the first time last night. I wasn't impressed with her family at all, but Brooke also clearly had a problem. She listed her drugs, and she had been given lots of pain meds, and folic acid, but no mention of a DMARD. Her mom made a comment about wanting the "old Brooke back" and all I could think was, yeah, I bet Brooke would like the old Brooke back, too. Someone later clarified on the boards that she meant before the addiction, but not before the illness. Slightly better, but still unlikely, seeing the progress of the disease in her.

I saw this episode last night. Wow. Kay, I also noticed no mention of a DMARD on board - but it kind of seems Brooke resisted treatment (even for Lyme) and embraced the pain pills. Much of her story is like many of us (not the addiction part) who have friends/family who don't understand RA,chronic pain or the depression that can come with it. I'm glad she got help - both for the addiction and for the obviously raging RA. Poor kid.

I had the show on and my husband comes home- watches a minute- says this girl is an idiot. isn't 2 1/2 Men on? Changes the channel.

Her family is what upset me. They cared only about themselves. They accused her of wanting attention when she was clearly in pain, not to mention the disfiguring nodules! AArgh

Yeah, I was upset about the way her family acted, too, but I'm sure there's far more to the story than what A & E chose to use for the hour. Did you see the end, where the doctor was explaining to the family that while they may have been upset at her being passed out on the floor, that was the level of pain relieve required for her to be comfortable.


ThinksRAstinks, that's hilarious - your hubs doesn't want to watch because he thinks she's an idiot, and 2.5 men is an improvement?
