Just thought I'd share what my rhuematoligist told me yesterday, I was hospitalized on March 4th for DVT, both legs, the left leg had DOZENS and some were considerable size. Two clots made it to my lungs, and I now have pulmonary hypertension due to the damge the emboli caused. The doctors were quite puzzled as to what could have caused the clots, I just did not fit the profile. I was put on Warfarin for 6 months, then I'll have another echocardiogram, if all is well, I'll be able to quit taking the Warfarin. My rhuemy said they need to leave me on the warfarin no matter what the results, reason being, some people with RA develope a condition with their blood that causes the blood to be very thick. I told him my PT/INR levels are saying that is under control. He said it is only because I AM TAKING THE WARFARIN. If they take me off it, I will surely get the clots again. So he is going to run blood tests 1 month before the echocardiogram,and send the results to my primary and pulmonoligists, urging them to keep me on the Warfarin..
So I wonder if my primary and pulmonoligist are aware that RA could have caused everything? Have any of you with RA experienced blood clots?
