I get thrush quite often. My dr prescribed me Clotrimazole which are lozenges and you can take up to 5 daily. They help me alot.

I get it frequent also. I have an ongoing prescription for fluconazole. its the only thing Ive found to get rid of mine. Im not sure if its caused by only prednisone though, Ive gotten it from other meds as well. only started getting it since Ra arrived in my life.

Antibiotics do it to me every time. When the physician writes the script for the antibiotic (the few I can take), I always tell him to add the fluconazole because it's gonna happen. Magic Mouthwash really relieves oral thrush symptoms. I've only had oral thrush once and it was bad. The doctor wrote out prescription for Magic Mouthwash and I was amazed at the relief.

I thankfully, have not had thrush, but have a nearly ongoing case of vag. yeast infection. The doctor only makes me come in once in a great while now, just to make sure it hasn't gone bacterial too.

Prednisone, and all dmards, will cause a greater susceptabiity to getting yeast infections because of the immune reducing effects of the meds. So I guess we're all stuck with it. If I find something that makes it stop, I promise to post it repeatedly, and all in capital letters...IF...

I've had a lot of yeast issues as well (before any meds). I started with vaginal yeast that nothing cured. We found a cure online using boric acid suppositories (I know that sounds awful), and the doctor okayed it so I used that and finally got rid of the vaginal yeast. Once I went through menopause that might have helped it as well, who knows? Then about a year ago I started getting oral thrush a lot. Yeast is my enemy, lol. I find the mouth rinse meds do help but don't often "get rid" of it b/c as soon as I stop the meds it comes back. I haven't had oral thrush lately; I'm no longer on methotrexate which I think encouraged the thrush (although I had it before then too). But since quitting the methotrexate in April I haven't had another thrush episode. Knock on wood because it is awful (and surprisingly painful too). I wish I knew some tricks for you. My FIL recommended lemon juice rinses; I didn't find those helpful except for a brief respite--like ten minutes. I also take acidophilus pills (I never saw any results with that though) and I love yogurt (but again don't really see that helping much even though I usually eat just the plain kind). Do cut back on sugar as much as possible. I personally think sugar just aggravates your yeast and helps it "grow".

I got it when I started taking 20mg pred a day. I didn't know the connection then. Thanks for the info and I hope nobody gets it.

I got it while I was on Enbrel. My Dr thought it was because of my inhalers but I used my inhalers before without any problem. Thankfully,I didn't have a bad case of it. My Dr also prescribed the lozenges and it worked well but you need to use them frequently and not skip any doses.
