I agree 100% with you and the article at the link you posted.

I understand that, if the new and improved medications were advertised as mediocre, they probably wouldn't sell as much of them but wish the FDA would do more to enforce truth in advertising when it comes to medications.

Thank goodness there is no advertising of prescription medicines here, in Australia. There are ads for over the counter meds but that is all.

It's also interesting to read on this RA board that, often, rheumies ask patients which med or biologic they would like. That doesn't happen here, either. The Rheumatologist makes the decision.

I am so pleased that there is no adverti8sing of RA meds. I can just imagine people telling me, " That XXXXX that's on TV would get rid of your RA in no time."

I didn't like the article either but when all is said and done they are trying to sell you a drug, but just the same your life with RA no matter the drug you are taking is nothing like what you see in those ads, all those drugs only slow the progression of the disease, you still feel tired, you are still in pain, your symptoms go on regardless of your choice of drug. Believe nothing that you hear and half of what you see
comes to mind with commercials like that. Sad but true!

Even with natural diet induced remission - there's no way I could physically go back to my active life as a ft horse trainer and racetrack exercise rider. Ten years of moderate disease activity took away my strength and stamina. Sure I am now back into endurance (marathon) riding - but I've been forced to switch to smooth gaited horses since RA took away my ability to use stirrups because of damaged feet. And break a totally wild horse again? No, that is no longer something I'm physically able to do. I now only do calm and broke horses - and work a far less physical job as a teacher.

Yes, you can still have a full life - but with new limitations.

I participated in a survey in which they asked if the commercials showed the correct representation of the results from using a biologic. My response was "no". Since then I have noticed a significant improvement in the ads. No longer are they showing people rock climbing and running marathons but more "normal" daily activities such as gardening and cooking, etc.
I do have moderate to severe RA and the biologics have restored my normal daily activities with slight modifications. The only thing I can't do any longer is run but at 51 that's okay with me.
I wish they didn't advertise any prescription meds at all but hey the drug companies need to make their money I guess. sigh

as a long time member of a company that sells television advertising all that I have to say is though I have a face for radio, in real life on the internet I am a French model.

Y'all think about the number of ads for these and/or any drugs you see on tv, the cost of each is extremely high to produce and then to air.....then think about the cost of our drugs. oh yeah.

I am newly diagnosed and the doctor wants me to take Plaquinil. I am scared of the side effects especially eye sight problems. I understand the commercials show complete recovery with the biologics and I also think that it's false advertisement. However, if anyone has had experience with plaquinil I sure would appreciate any reply.

I take plaq. I'm told it has the least side effects. Make sure to get your eyes checked/measured by an eye doc (forget the actual term but not just a glasses prescriber but the the MD variety) right away to establish a base line and then have them checked again every 6 or 12 mos (I do 6) to see if retina problems have begun. If it starts it can be caught very early before severe damage if you've been diligent about checking.

the saddest part of those commercials is that your friends, boss and co=workers see them and they BELIEVE the commercials more than they do you.

I get so mad every time i seem them!!! Man!!!!!
