If you go to a podiatrist, you can get an evaluation and orthotic inserts. Insurance will cover it, at the same rate yours usually does. There is a limit on how often though. I think it's like 1xyr or 1xevery couple of years. I had a choice of either casual insert or "work" insert (which is slim and will go into most flats/heels).

I would like to go again, I don't want the work insert and I think my feet are way different now, but I'm still in the alloted time frame on my insurance.

Call and see what you are covered for! (and get the insert that goes with your new balance)

and while on the topic - I did NOT like the Dr. Scholls thing at Walmart...where it analyzes your feet. I'm sure my analysis was close but the dang insert was HUGE. I wear a women's 8.5, and those inserts wouldn't even slide into my New Balances. Plus, they really didn't feel so great.
The podiatrist ones are EXACT.

I needed them to be able to walk last year. I got some called Xeolero. They were only $150 and have lasted a full yr and a couple months. The man that fitted me told me that after the first time to go on the internet and get them. They are made in Sweden, I think. He gave me all the measurements I need to order them online the next time. He said they are about half price when bought from the manufacturer. Good luck.

I too went to Foot solutions this past summer and almost fainted. My feet and ankles hurt so bad and the shoes did feel wonderful. But, I could not afford them. My kids went back and got me a pair of the flip flops I liked so I could wear them with my sundresses. But they were $75, for a pair of flip flops! I also got orthotics from my podiatrist but my insurance did not help cover them because I am not a diabetic. I think once a need is established the insurance should help cover them. Seriously, who would wear these things if we really didnt need them!

I went to Dillards today and bought my first pair of Ugg's. I love them. They were expensive but well worth it. I wore them the whole morning and never once did my feet hurt. I'm sold. I figured that if I didn't go to the podiatrist and just spent the money on the shoes I would come out ahead.

Maybe we should all start gelling like the Dr. Scholls commercial

I do use the gell inserts, they help but still not enough. I did that Sholls thing at Walmart and got some but returned them, they hurt my feet! About the Uggs, I have heard about them but I thought they were just another fashion thing for people, do they help you feet really?

Just try a pair on. You'll see. Seriously I was so surprised how comfortable they were.

I have the LL Bean version of Uggs and adore them!
