Hi, sorry you are not feeling well. When I was first on MTX, my hair was thin as ever. Now I am on a gluten free diet and vitamin supplements from the Nutritionist doctor. I also don't add straightener products in hair.Still thin, and will not grow, but better than before when i was on MTX. Simponi, I was on for nine months. The Rheumatologist thought it would eventually kick in. For nine months out of that year, I was mostly in pain. Finally I said enough and the Rheumatologist switched to another biologic.

The same thing happened to me. Turns out I was allergic to it. After about three weeks I broke out in hives on my hands and the the skin on them just pealed off. As soon as she took me off that stuff I felt so much better. Now I am on Arava. No problems so far. But more importantly no sickness.

Just trust your feelings and go to E.R. or Doctor if things get worse. I don't wanna be a kill joy,MTX caused me to have a heartattack in 2004. Also watch for rash! All R.A. meds. are risky. God Bless dear.

MTX made me feel worse. All my joints were hurting more with it. My doctor switched me to Enbrel. I also got bad diarrhea from MTX pills. I told my doctor right from the start. If the medicines make me sick I'm not taking it. I refuse to feel sicker than what I feel. I recenty had to stop Enbrel because of heart palpitations.

I had the hair loss.
I would probably ask to switch to something else, or a different combination. I don't see the point in being sick on one med when there are quite a few others to try.

I see 51% asked about folic acid- that was my first question. Are you on a prescription form of it? My doctor has also had me start taking leucovorin after the mtx, and it does seem to help. Are you still getting nauseated from the mtx? For me, that went away when I switched to injections.

I took mtx by mouth and now I am on another sulsizide pill. I also lost hair on mtx! I have very fine hair too! I feel better now on the new pill and prednisone (5mg) that I ever did before:)

I am on oral Mtx 25mg weekly, I also had little relief prior to my dose being bumped up a few times. I was also on other meds, and felt the same as you did...good a few days and terrible a few days every week. . I also had side effects from MTX and my rheuma increased my prescription folic acid to 2mg daily, and many side effects subsided after the first 6 months on MTX.. The only side effect I experience now is diarrhea after my weekly dose. Also, my meds have been adjusted and changed seveal times, also on plaquenil, enbrel, and a very low dose daily prednisone that I was told to double during flares. Make sure you address your concerns with your rheuma, and maybe as mentioned in other posts your dose needs to be increased and folic acid dose bumped up. Hang in there. We all know how difficult it is to find the right combo of medications that work well for us individually. Hope you get some relief and help soon.

Thanks everyone! I went to see my doc and she prescribed me methylprednisolone which is different than regular prednisone. I'm doing a dose down from 4 tabs to 1 tab over about 2 weeks. I started this morning and I feel better already. She also put me back down to .4 mgs of injectable MTX for now. I react very strangely to meds so she wants to monitor me over the next couple of weeks. I do take prescription folic acid...3mgs. My hair is still thinning but I guess I'll just have to live with it for now. Thank you all so much for your valuable and appreciated input!
