I take .6 of methotrexate every week too. When diagnosed with RA about 15 months ago, I started with pills of methotrexate and the morning after the first dosage, I vomited about 8 times. I have a very hard time tolerating medications. I now take one 8mg Ondansetron pill 30 minutes before the methortrexate. I believe cancer patients take this with their chemo. It cures the vomiting but I still felt sickly the day of the injection and the day after. Now I still take the Ondansetron 30 minutes before but I eat a meal high in fat before the injection and it works like a charm for me. It's either a burger and fries, fried chicken or pizza. I have tried a healthier meal of meat, potatoes, veggies and bread but ended it with a bowl of full fat ice cream and that worked okay but not as well. This is something that I learned myself a couple of months after being diagnosed with RA. It's worth the calories and fat intake to eliminate the sickly feeling for me. Good Luck.

I have been lucky with my MTX. I started out on 6 and got lowered to 4 pils about ayear ago. I must have a stomach made of iron as they don't bother me as far as the nausea goes. I am tired the day I take them and the next. I have learned to take themon Friday night so I sleep pretty good. And on Sat. I don't do much but by Sunday I am back to normal.

I started using the MTX injection about 8 months ago. I'm was on the same dosage as you, but my hair really began falling out-my rheumy lowered it to 5 and it's much better. It use to really wipe me out-(I'd take the shot on Thursday)by Friday and Saturday all I wanted to do was sleep. Now I've added Enbrel and everything is much better-a little more stamina. I hope you find the right mix:)

I've been doing my injections 0.6 but told to do 0.5 becuase if you look some remain in the syringe. Mine are twice a week BUT at bed time. So I get a great a night sleep. Instead of losing a day of just sleeping. By doing it twice a week my body doesn't have need for it. than I did weekly.
Since I've been on mine for way over a year, I take Folic Acid 400mcg. Keeps my liver panel test lower big time and no stomach upsets. I take 4 in the morning and with my dinner too.
Where do you do your injections? I was told to do it in my thigh. Then change legs each injections. Doesn't hurt at all.

I take .10mg of MTX injectaed weekly. I take it in the morning. Often I have a mild headache but that is the extent of my symptoms. The headache is not even bad enough to pop aspirin for. How long have you been taking the MTX? Sometimes you have intial side effects that go away after a few weeks or so.

If you are concerned call your doctor or pharmacist. The pharmacist can tell you if the sysmtoms you are experiencing are legit side effects to the MTX. If you call your doc though, he or she may be able to tweak whatever they are doing. Hope you feel better soon. marcia

I was firstly prescribed Methotrexate in tablet form about 10 years ago. I started on a low dose then eventually settled to 20mg once a week. I absolutely couldn't bare all those tablets since I am phobic and always crunched them down in my mouth which made me feel horrible so I now have it in injection form but only 15mg for now along with Enbrel injections twice a week.
Unfortunately I am off both at the moment due to a low white blood cell count. The pain I'm in now makes me realize how good these treatments are for me. I have to take folic acid with my Methotrexate which reduces the toxicity of the drug. I would advise that you enquire about this. Good luck!
