I have not taken sulfazaline but I have mouth sores regularly on MTX. I was told that I might have more colds and sinus infections, but that has not been a problem so far. I'm not much help with your question, but I wanted to share a RX paste that was prescribed for me by a dermatologist: TRIAMCINOLONE. It seems to clear the ulcers up faster than anything else that I have used. Good luck, I hope you feel better soon.

With any DMARDS, you have to realize you are suppressing your immune system. Remember autoimmune diseases causes our bodies to attack various systems of our bodies and when you take immune suppressive drugs, your immune system goes awry therefore opening you up to all kinds of reactions, like the mouth ulcers, sore throats, many other ailments.

I myself refuse to take them, I take anti-inflammatories only which have kept my RA in check with no side effects. I do not want to jeopardize my immune system any further. Perhaps it will go away once your body gets used to the new drug. Good luck!

Hi Lois, I take Folic Acid for the mouth sores, which my Dr. prescribes. The stuff works! My prescription is for 1 mg. a day, but I take two a day if I feel sores trying to form and the Folic acid stops them dead in their tracks. I wish you luck!

Dont take sulfazaline so shouldnt really comment but am on mtx and recently have had trouble with sores and cold sores that used to only occur once or twice a year at most throughout my life. My dr wouldnt commit herself to whether it the mtx and maybe too polite to refer to the ageing process (!) but a rheumy I saw privately the other week on RA issues says the RA itself can cause all sorts of stuff like this in flares! And I had always hoped that an aggressive flare at least meant the immune system would ward everything else off. Seems like it might just be stuffed and out of kilter so prepare for any onslaught?? sorry not be more helpful. I take lypsine, vit c and multi bs, use colloidal silver, hypercal lotion and if sure cold sore related use a standard drug sometimes very successfully other times more slowly.

I was on mthx for 10 years, and the mouth sores were unbelievable. I took 5 mg folic acid per day and no help. So I went off. I on Sulfasalazine, and I still have them, but not as bad. Just more tiny irritations. I am still on the 5 mg folic acid. It is something to do with the liver, but Sulfasalazine, enteric coated shouldn't do that. So who knows?

So now it is true confessions time. I was going to make a separate thread, but here is as good as any. I have massive yeast infections in my arm pits. I am using topical, but it is not helping. So probably I will have to take the Diclofican. I know must be to do with the DMARD - I had it once before, but not as bad. Or maybe it is just too much biking - and I did stop taking yogurt, because I didn't want to bring it on holidays. It is not quite as itchy as shingles, but I am really fed up.

So no solutions, just more complaints.

He caught fever almost 20 days goes by that I do not know more now what comes from where. Oh was a mess in my head.
