I started with 8 pills but they made me so sick I went down to 4. Is your current dose not working as well as it used to?

I think 10 pills, 25 mg., is the top dose. You're getting toward the higher end, but not at the limit.

Angelpuss do you take them all at once? I took all ten last and no sleep all night. I'm wondering if I could 4 one day and 4 the next. Input appreciated. Trish

In Australia, Methotrexate pills come as 10mg tablets. So for 25mg, I just take 2 and a half tablets. I've always taken them all at once
However, I'm sure I've read where people do split the dose over two days, but check with your doctor first.

Have you thought about doing MTX injections rather than pills. Not being able to sleep at night is the pits. You need your sleep.

I'll h e to check into mtx injections, the no sleep is getting to me. If injections cause less sleep problems it would totally be worth it.. Do you inject yourself? Is t painful?

I take 8 pills each morning. Rheumy did say they could be split up with 4 in morning and 4 later in the day. He also suggested that shots would be an option if I would prefer. I have not had any major problems since the initial adjustment period when I was also on prednisone. Good luck, Trish. I thought, in the beginning that swallowing a few pills would be better than shots, but I am reading, from others, descriptions of those needles that it might not be all that bad once practiced a time or two. I am sure most of us could manage tackling that challenge once we are ready. Again, good luck, and take care.

grace, I'm confused! You take 8 mtx per day?! I'm only taking it once a week. Trish

Trish, with the mtx injections you do it yourself, with a tiny little needle. It's really easy, once you're over the newbie jitters, and it doesn't hurt at all.

I find it interesting that you could not sleep after taking MTX. It makes me so tired when I take it! I don't take the oral form but have done the injections since I started. Unbelievable fatigue is the only real side effect I have from the injections. Taking my MTX on the same day as Humira (I take it weekly) helps with the fatigue a lot.

My rheumy said I can split the dose, as long as I take all 8 within 12 hours. The day after taking it the fatigue was almost sick making, but I also got no lee, so I'll try the new thing Friday. Trish

I prefer the injections. Less side effects all around especially nausea. I use diabetic syringes with the thinnest gauge needle I can find (usually 31) and use a short needle (5/8") and inject into my stomach about 2 inches from the belly button. I don't feel anything.

I never thought I could handle giving myself injections. I still can't even look at the needle when they draw my labs or do my infusions. It took a few weeks, but what did carrotop say? I put my boots on & started stomping? (Ima steal that one carrot. I like it!)

I take 10 once a week. I started out with 4, then Rhuemy slowly increased it. Was so sick for 4 months. I'm finally used to it! I also take Plaquienil and Orencia, much better, have my days. Family doesn't get it. Stopped asking for approval, seek it to people that understand. My motto is it can always be worse! I try to be positive most of the times and I try not for RA to define me, I have also DDD and 6 bulging discs in my back that act up! I live on a heating pad, and some time ice! It raining today, the pain woke me up! I am trying to "Move a Muscle Change a thought" not to think about it! This is such a safe group to chat on! Thank you!
