Need advice. Rheum switched me to injectable Methotrexate due to nausea and mouth sores. Been on injectable 3 weeks and I am on third mouth sore one on tinge one on Lowe lip forming these are very very painful. I know I should call but would like to give injectable longer anyone have home remedy for these sores.

Also curious for those on biologics I am assuing they are expensive, does insurance generally cover?

Mention it to your dentist, as well. I hadn't really thought about it, but all mouth-related issues come under a dentist's umbrella too; they can prescribe meds that will be helpful, if you aren't seeing your rheumatologist for awhile. I'm experiencing a sloughing-off of skin cells inside my mouth - the inside of my cheeks -after injecting methotrexate. The dentist was reassuring, said he sees this in his patients who have cancer, and he suggested using a really soft brush to remove the loosening tissue. It's only a problem for a day or so after the injection.

I used to get mouth sores on MTX, but I take 5 mg of folic acid the day before my shot and the day of my shot and the day after my shot. It has stopped them for the last 5 years. Hope this helps. The doctor should be able to write a script for that strength because OTC you will have to take a ton of pills.

Folic acid helps if you still get mouth sores try to take extra folic acid. There are times i forget to take my folic acid for a few days I get mouth sores.

Hahaha! I'm just seeing this, californialynn, and you're absolutely right... canker sores. It just sounds like there should be a K, doesn't it. Thank you for catching that.
