Methotrexate Mouth Sores

My dose has recently gone up. I remember when I was at 6 in the past I got mouth sores a lot. I was told to tske folic acid. But I am on a strong folic acid now and still getting them anyone know what else might help?

I had the same problem. I read somewhere that the medicine is not processed into your body as well as foods that are high in FA. So I started eating a lot of leafy greens and other foods high in FA. I was a bad eater, so I'd just do it as long as I needed to feel better then go back to my regular diet. I did this multiple times, and every time the foods would make me feel better. Less tired, more alert, and the sores would go away. My aunt who is on MTX had the same problem and said this technique worked for her as well.

Now I am on plaquenil instead, but I eat much healthier. Go figure, eh? :D

I am curious, what is your dosage of folic acid. My doc told me to take a 1,000 mg daily; when I couldn't find it on pharmacy shelves I got an rx for that amount. It really seems to help, I only have occasional mouth sores. Trish

I'm also on 1,000mg daily of FA. I've never had mouth sores but recently had a canker sore that took over a week to go away which I had never experienced before.

In the ICU when patients have mouth sores, we often use Maalox as a swish and spit type of treatment and it seems to give our patients quite a bit of relief and the nurses think it helps with healing. Worth a try!

Trish I am very anemic the thyroid dr put me on teron forte I guess it has a mix of everything in it. I'm not sure if the dose.
