Hi Trish - I was told that the biologics work better with methotrexate.Anyway, I have been on a few biologics, including Humira, and always was told to take it with Methotrexate. I don't think you need to worry, and it will hopefully help you!

i think your second question was more along the lines of what about using a generic for humira, no?

if not eligible, I am curious about the generics. i would have thought enbrel would have been the first to have one but humira has been out almost as long.

how does the formulary differ I wonder?

as to your first question, almost all rheumies wax on about the "synergistic" affect of taking the biologic with the mtx. when I was working I could not take mtx (it affected my job performance, too much fog and too much bathroom) but I am back on the mtx now with the orencia since I was doing so poorly.

i wonder if there is anyone else on here to answer up that they are on a biologic generic for humira in a trial or you are it.

In some of the trials, not only is the medicine covered, but you will be paid for time/travel. I don't know that this is the case, but it would be good if so.

Trish - since we are all different and the med list (mine is almost 2 pages now) is going to treat each one of us different.

I do know FOR SURE the E LAK is not a good thing in any form.

Depot I've checked with Kaiser and the copay is $500. And bcatz yes they do pay $75 a visit and no charge for brand x or humira for the 2 years of the study. My rheumy is very up on all the new stuff and he says the chemical make-up of brand x is exactly the same as humira. Bluedog the new one isn't on the market yet, so pretty sure it's not ELAK! I am really kind of excited to be part of something that could help someone else, but kind of nervous too. Thanks guys for input. Trish

Call Humira and ask if they will pay the co pay on their co pay assistance program since you have Kaiser (Kaiser is a commercial group health insurance right?)

You are on Medicare, aren't you, Trish? If so, you don't qualify for the regular assistance programs. They do have others set up for people on Medicare, though.

The clinical trial is most likely for a biosimilar. (They can't make generics of the biologic drugs for various deep & dark scientific reasons.) Personally, I would jump at the chance to do the clinical trial, especially if no one is getting a placebo.

Taking meth with a biologic has a 2+2=5 effect. It is also thought to help keep you from developing antibodies to the biologic, keeping it effective longer. If the patient can tolerate meth, it is standard to keep them on it when adding a biologic. Taking either meth or a biologic with kale can cause a quick and excruciating death, though. (Hyperemesis.)

kale cocktail (who else is going to make it for you alto?) I love complicated libations.

Ingredients:
1 1/2 ounces rye whiskey
1/2 cup pineapple, cubed
8 basil leaves
3/4 ounces fresh lemon juice
1/2 ounce brown sugar
1/4 ounce fresh pineapple juice
1/4 ounce fresh-squeezed kale juice
Directions:
1. In a pint glass, add pineapple cubes and basil leaves. Muddle until completely pulverized.
2. Add 1/4 cup of this to shaker, along with rye whiskey, lemon juice, brown sugar, and kale juice.
3. Add ice and shake for eight to 10 seconds. Strain in to rocks glass with ice.
