I'm on 25mg/1ml weekly dose which is half an ampoule. My Rheumy has commented that there isn't any research supporting efficacy of a higher dose and why be on a higher dose if the benefit isn't supported by scientific research but your liver still has to handle the added toxicity.

BTW, I am currently not on a biologic combined with MTX.

I have a friend who is on 25mg, however my Rheumy maxed me out at 20mg and have been on this dose for close to a year. Hope this helps :)

I am currently on 20mg/week, and my Rheumy said the highest dosage is 25 mg. I am also on Enbrel - one injection per week.

Good question, I had to go look at my meds. I'm on 25mg injectable MTX although last week when I went because of my flare I'm sure he gave me an injection of 50mg, I go back next week for a follow up and have to call tomorrow to find out how much to inject this week.

When I was taking the MTX pills my rheumy said that the highest dose for RA was 22.5 mg, anything higher wouldn't help the RA anymore.

I was up to 25 mg when I stopped. My doc had stepped me up from 10 mg, in increments of 5 mg (2 pills), and I had more relief at 25 than 20 mg. My brother just started 20 mg, and that's as far as his RD will take him.

A friend of mine is on 22.5 and she said that is the max her dr. will do for her.

I was on 25 mg. injectable. I have had a steadily deteriorating liver. I have been on and off the last year. I could barely stand the flares and exhaustion. I have been injecting 5mg to supplement the Sulfasazaline and Kineret. Now my liver is hurting, mouth sores and hair falling out. I am very frustrated. I would like to take it.

Whatever dose you take, get monthly liver testing. Some people have no problems. I am not one of those.

I am on 25 mg/ml dose weekly too. That is the highest dose of anyone I know.

I am so blessed in that I have had no issues with my liver and have only had to come off mtx for pregnancies.

AoifeO: That would mean you have to come off mtx at least once a year, right? Lol! No offence. Big families are awesome!

haha, aren't you funny RissaJoy. lol, no offence taken! Thankfully, for my six I only had to endure 4 pregnancies over 10 years. If only you didn't have to come off for 6 months before - maybe I could have had more! (No, I most certainly have enough children. Infact, I'll pay YOU to take my twin boys these days.)

I am new to this site and boy am I thankful I found it! What a relief to see so many topics I can relate to and even more that I can get answers from others' experiences.

Regarding MTX, my dose is 25 mg and I give myself a .9cc shot each week. I'm told it is basically equivalent to 9 pills each week. My doc said he would not go over 10 pills a week.

I also just started Orencia, still in the loading stage.
