im rite with you ra fighter ..someone here posted about peppermint candies ..bought them and they did help with nasuea a bit ...good time of the year , candy canes have been hanging out of my mouth now since i took the MTX , also it is making my brain work backwards ..dislexia ...and huge slurirng and stumbling over my words ..i dont think i can take it much longer ..the drug it self i mean ..it is making me miserable , but also helping a tiny bit with symptoms ..a catch 22 ...jeese i dont know what to say ..wish i could help .

Are you taking the pills orally. If so, ask your Rheumy to change to injections. Apparently, that should deal with the nausea.
I take 25mg MTX orally at night so that I sleep through any nausea. Also, per Rheumy's suggestions, I drink more water on the day I take the MTX and the day after. He also said to drink a full glass of water taking it and make sure to have had a proper dinner. If you click on GROUPS (top of page on the right) and then click Tips for taking MTX, you will find suggestions there from people in this group.
Strangely Methotrexate is the only RA med I haven't had severe side effects from.

Hi, I'm in 20mg of MTX injections. I inject on Friday nights after work, the first weekend I felt horrible all weekend but it has improved every weekend since. No nausea, just dizziness now, and by Saturday morning I'm ok . Highly suggest getting on injections if you aren't right now.

I agree with other posters, ask about changing to injections. I started with injections and have had nausea on only 2 occassions and I'm not even sure they are related to the MTX. I did have flu like symptoms and weakness the first few injections but that seems to be improving. I also try to increase my fluid intake the days surrounding my MTX dose.

I only take 15 mg but I do the same as Angelpuss, take them at night. The next day I only have remnants of nausea. Been on mtx since Feb and the nausea has abated somewhat with time. I wish you only the best. Trish

I found that drinking lots of water helped. I'd start loading up on water the day BEFORE the mtx and continue drinking a lot of water for 24 hours AFTER I took the mtx. Another member of this group, Bistro, suggested this, and it worked for me. Hope you get some relief.

It seems I'm always catching up on discussions.
I had the same symptoms as you only it lasted at least 4 days for me.
After third attempt I gave up.
I've read over & over about injections more tolerated by many.
Had I not been a such a chicken I would have attempted it myself.
Now about the water, amazing how hydration & simple water intake can make a difference.
I've worked in geriatric home care & over & over water intake can make or break a situation, something as simple as water.
I'd definantly take that piece of advice.

My mother dealt with it all during her breast cancer chemotherapy. Oncologist said it was normal and most symptoms were from the MTX. It was many months after her final dose before it went away. And she hasn't had an RA flare since.

2scirazed , you must have a very strong mom..thats alot at one time to deal with ..i send her prayres and a big ole hug .
