It might be the meloxicam but it might not. Are these readings at home?
Are you hydrated?
What is your Mobic dose now? 15mg? If you can handle it...do a test. Two tests actually. Go back down to your old dose for a few days and see what happens. If it goes down, then you know.

Also, perhaps you can get away with 3/4 of the dose? Test that too.

My bp can get elevated but it's anxiety related big time.

Call your doctor. Let him/her know what is going on.

Yes gryd, my blood pressure was the highest of my life on Mobic and Voltaren. Prior to all of this my BP was low 90s over 40s. While on them it was 140s. I actually popped 2 subconjunctival hemorrhages while on them. It took a while for my blood pressure to return to normal after changing over to my current combo. I think another factor was constant pain.

I'd definitely talk to your doc. Prolonged and uncontrolled high BP is the number one cause of kidney disease.

I've had high blood pressure for years that was controlled with medication. For me a good reading is anything below 140/80.

Blood pressure has been high many times over the years since RA. I can't say I really blame any one medication for it. I honestly think it is the pain and stress. My PCP makes a note on my chart that my blood pressure is high due to pain.

When I was taking Arava a few years ago, my always normal BP went to 210/120 - pretty scary. As soon as I stopped Arava, BP went back to normal and has remained there.

Today was day one of an 8 week vacation. I slept until 3 pm. Usually get up at 5 am. I needed this badly! Not sure if I'll ever be able to go back!

Call your doctor. All NSAIDS can cause high blood pressure. I too have to watch that.

Coaltrain is correct also - pain and stress of having a chronic illness can also contribute to high blood pressure.

I would say that you definitely fall into both of these categories.

Steroids can raise bp too. Not sure if you got an injection recently.

I think stress and prednisone keep my blood pressure a little out of range. So I started taking 2 Magnesium Malate, 1000mg, 200mg Elemental, capusules daily. Ok'd by rheumy. Helps keep my blood pressure in check. I take them about 2 hours before bedtime and it helps with a good nights sleep.
If I take them AT bedtime, I have very vivid NIGHTMARES...just crazy! So I learned real fast to take a few hours before bedtime....
I also have to take D3 daily and I learned that Magnesium helps D3 do it's job -

I forgot about this thread. Sorry. I took the past 3 days off Meloxicam. I see 2 doctors tomorrow. I'll see if my BP came down. If it did then I'll request to go back ont the Lodine (etodolac) which served me well for chronic back pain the past 3 years. Gentlest NSAID on the stomach as well in my opinion. Let's face it. Whehter it be Meloxicam, Celebrex, or Lodine these things do very little to help me with an RA flare. It's as though the RA just laughs at these meds. If they were my only source of relief I'd be doomed!

Today my blood pressure was 190 over 105!! It was taken at my physiatrists office and they didn't seem to care so much but I did. I called my PCP and he started me back up on Losartan and will see me Tuesday. I think I broke 200 at one point just from being stressed out about my BP. I have no unusual symptoms and took an Ativan and a nap. I was able to trace the rise in BP to my Meloxicam use, On 5/6 it was 130/70. I started Meloxicam on 5/13 and by 5/27 ny BP pwas 160/90. I early June the doctor doubled the dose of Meloxicam and since then my BP has been through the roof. I also started Mehtotrexate at the same time but have been on it before without a problem. The doctors office said I can take my weekly dose tonight but to stay away from Meloxicam. I called my rheumy to discuss it with him but got no call back. These doctors can be so apathetic at times.

Wow! Glad you are on this. I can pull numbers like you got but mine are 100% anxiety related. I was proud to only get 162/92 Thursday at the neurologists. That's actually progress.

Half life is 20hrs and full clearance of your system of it is 5 days...but I'd give it a week to be sure.

Meloxicam does cause high blood pressure

I have tried meloxicam over the past several years and each time it cause my blood pressure to skyrocket --- more so than any other NSAID I've ever taken. I am unable to take meloxicam due to the high blood pressure side effect.
