I have been taking methotrexate and prednisone and motrin 800 for the past few months and it is not working so I am starting a new medication to take in addition to my other meds a medication called plaqenil I am not sure if I spelled it right but I am close . My doctor said if that doesn't work she will try me on humira which is an injection but i told her i would like to try the pills first before we try the injection. I already take insulin at night and i don't like injecting myself but I will if I have to what ever works but my mom takes plaqenil and it seems to work pretty well for her she has been taking it for years. Wish me luck or pray for me please that it will work well .
Then, when I went to get my eyes checked this year, the ophthamologist informed me that Plaquenil can cause eye damage for up to 5 years after you come off of it. So, a terrible choice for me.
Mthx injectable, as much as you may hate injections, is the best way to go, with a biologic. They work together to produce more than the two drugs separately. The pills don’t absorb well, and they damaged my stomach, and it has never really recovered, 15 years later. I have no issues with injectable.
You are going to have to make choices with your health. Staying away from needles, which barely hurt is not the goal, Plus, mthx injections are done with diabetic needles which literally do not hurt at all, if you use the 30 gauge.
I used to be on a daily biologic, Kineret, for 5 years. It hurt a lot more than mthx, but my RA was 100% controlled, in combo with mthx injectable. After a while, I liked my daily needle, because I knew it was another day without RA flares or pain. I wish I could go back to those days!
