Lupus and RA

Anyone with both Lupus and RA. What treatments are you receiving? My rheumy says I can't receive any of the biologics because of the Lupus. This kind of limits my treatment options. I am currently on Plaquenil, Prednisone and Arava. MTX was a no go because of side effects. I have read that some of you can take the injection of MTX versus the oral pill form to reduce side effects. It has taken 3 months to get any relief from Arava. I am worried about what other options I may have in the future.

Hello,

I am on MTX and Enbrel right now, the Enbrel has stoppend working so I will start orencia soon. I have heard that Remicade is the one you can't take if you have both. Good luck,

Oh shoot ! I did try injecting but it still messed with my intestinal disease . Good luck and let us know what happens ! ~b

I also have lupus & Ra both. I am currently taking Orencia infusions, imuran & plaquenil. I have also had Rituxan infusions prior to Orencia. My rheumy told me that Enbrel, remicade any of the biologics that you inject yourself are the ones to stay away from because that can aggravate lupus or cause a lupus like syndrome in someone who does not have lupus. Rituxan is currently under clinical trials to be approved to treat lupus. It wasn't the miracle drug for me but it might be one to try. I understand how frustrating it is when you are even more limited in your treatment options.

I'm taking Plaquenil, Arava, and pain meds.
It's no picnic to have both because it is not so straightforward with treatments. Like hampton6410, my rhuematologist said there is research to show that Orencia and Rituxan are the only two biologics that we might try having both diseases. I've not had either one. My doctor wants to wait in case we need something to fall back on if I should get worse for some reason.

The Plaquenil and Arava have made a difference, but not provided the relief that alot of folks get here with other treatments.

Hi Everyone

It is great to come here for advise and information. I came here tonight to ask if anyone has used Orencia and what do ya know, I see other who do. Can anyone give me some insight to this treatment. I to have both Dx and am being taken off MTX due to WBC issues. I am really scared of the infusions.! Can anyone help! Thanks so much.
